Hello, I would like to upgrade to Geforce 2080 ti
Current monitor is 1080p 60Hz, but I want to upgrade to 2k or 4k, most likely 2k with 120Hz or more

I have a MSI Gaming Z97 GAMING 5 LGA 1150 Intel (3 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots) with an Intel Core i7-4790K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 4.0 GHz (4.4 GHz OC) LGA 1150 88W.
G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400
SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 1TB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive
EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 220-G2-0850-XR 80+ GOLD 850W Fully Modular

I currently have an EVGA Geforce 980 4gb, but I would like to upgrade to a 2080 ti.
Would my system bottleneck? This build is from March 2015
Any recommendations for upgrading?
Thanks for any help

Shouldn't be any bottlenecking to be honest. Still a strong CPU and overclocked. Eventually in time like all things it will get behind but not yet it shouldn't.

There's technically always going to be a 'bottleneck' in your system. What that is, depends on what you're doing and at what resolution.

At 1080p 240Hz, you'd maybe notice the 4790k hold you back a little bit, but your only real option(logically anyway) in terms of an upgrade from there is an 8700k/9700k. On the opposite side, at 4k 60Hz, you'll definitely be limited by the GPU before the CPU.

4.4GHz isn't an overclock for the 4790k, that's its' stock boost speed. I mean, technically if you set the multiplier to 44x, then it's kind of an overclock if you're utilising all of the cores, but you shouldn't have any problems getting a 4790k past 4.5GHz. I ran mine at 4.7GHz for ages, and that was me holding it back a bit too- was easily capable of 4.9GHz stable.

Also, "2k" is 1080p. 4k isn't called 4k because it's 4 x the resolution of 1080p, it's called 4k because it's approximately 4000 pixels wide. Either 4096x2160, or 3840x2160. 1080p is 1920 pixels across, so would be referred to as 2k. 1440p is 2560, so is actually 2.5k.
Good luck getting a 4k 120Hz monitor lol. If you want high refresh rate, either stick with 1080p 144Hz if you're on a tight budget or go 1440p 144Hz.

Oh, and lastly, upgrade your monitor before dropping over a grand on a new GPU that you're not even going to properly utilise before you upgrade monitor anyway.
