You have always been able to disable/enable the effects, simply go to the top left of your screen (PC/Mobile) and click "Quick Links" and from there you are able to disable the lights and the snow.

Yeah, and its annoying asf when your speakers are full blast lol, I disabled them this year, but the first time they showed up I shit a brick haha.
