Recently a co worker bought a used laptop, still had the users account which was password protected. Co worker did not receive the password, could not factory reset from boot menu due to missing partition so he erased the hard disk and now it will not do anything. Will not boot it just says no boot device please restart. Any thoughts on how to get windows back and get it reset so the laptop can be used? I tried booting from a usb that has a windows 8.1 iso on it since thats what laptop had on it but still same issue. Any help would be much appreciated.

Motto: Sophrosyne.
Might need to go into the BIOS and turn off safeboot and boot from the USB to do a fresh install.

Make sure USB boot is enabled in the BIOS to get to the windows installer.

If it already is double check the USB is bootable or has been setup correctly.

I just made sure secure boot was disable and tried from usb again and same thing, no boot device. Maybe i should try reinstalling the iso 8.1 file to the usb or something? Im not too familiar with usb boot to reset but i can try.

Sounds like a USB problem then. Easiest way would be to use MS media creation tool. It's Windows 10 but will set up the USB drive for you and make it bootable.
