Hi all,

This is my first post and I am on mission to help my young son upgrade his PC(my old PC), he plays Fortnite mostly and I would love to get to the point where he can play everything at the top settings smoothly a high FPS 60+

His current PC has the following components and I would like to know what I need to upgrade.

Motherboard ASUS P8Z77-M [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Processor Intel i5-2500k

Memory 16gig of some generic memory 4x4

Graphics card EVGA GTX 670 FTW [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

PSU Coolmaster GX Bronze 650W

HD mechanical 2.5 500GB

I have a budget of 300 gbp right now

Thanks in advance

Add an SSD, 240GB should be fine. OCZ TR200 is a great value SSD right now, the 240GB version at least. Then I'd say grab a used GTX 970 since people are selling them off stupid cheap right now and a 970 is still great for 1080p. GTX 970 would be a massive upgrade over the GTX 670. I seen a GTX 970 sell for £70 the other day, which is ridiculously cheap. They usually go for around £110, but I've seen a good few in the £90-100 range.

You could also maybe grab a used i7-2600k or i7-3770k and overclock it to squeeze out a bit more performance without having to upgrade motherboard and invest in DDR4 RAM. You can very easily find a used LGA1155 i7 for less than 100 quid. The i5 would still be fine, but it's starting to show it's age so I'd only hold on to the i5 if you're planning on upgrading socket in the near future anyway.

I have bought a GTX 970 which will arrive on Friday, I will hold off on the chip upgrade for another 6 months or so but will get an SSD in the next few weeks... thanks for the pointers 13
