About the show:

In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called: Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die in real life. Their struggle for survival starts now.

Story:
The main character is Kirito, who was one of the beta testers for Sword Art Online before the game released. Since he played the beta, It gave him a huge advantage within the game. In the first season, we follow Kirito as he is trying his best to beat the game and free everyone. He meets a girl named Asuna, who shares high-level combat skills and with whom he teams up and tries to finish the game. During the time they spend together, they start to develop feelings for each other and promise to free each other from the game and continue their relationship in real life. When they actually manage to beat the game, Kirito wakes up in the real world but finds out that Asuna is still not able to wake up.

Art:
The animation was awesome it had nice backgrounds, effects, and good fighting scenes. Character design was good. The female characters in the show had really nice outfits.

My Rating:
Solid 7.5

SAO gets a lot of hate but it's honestly not a bad show. I rather enjoyed it anyway.

I'd agree with a 7.5. The first time I watched this though a couple years ago, I thought it was amazing. Still very entertaining, especially as someone who loves a good RPG.

But did you watch the movie? Ordinal Scale? It was incredible. Definately worth the watch when you have the time

I stopped watching after a few episodes. It was really interesting but I hated how they set up the plot and the characters themselves seemed weakly done with little to no backstory. Great review, and I'd agree with your 7 rating.

Personally that movie felt just like an OVA, didn't really seem exciting to me in my opinion, other than the final moments of it then it got good.
