Here where I live in Seattle ,WA to afford to rent a place is about $1,200 cheapest and the highest is $2,000. TO buy a house your looking around 400,000$ plus



The fair market rental on a 2-bedroom place comes in aabout $1,397 per month. That means a renter here needs to make $26.87 per hour to afford a 2-bedroom unit in Washington.

Other states renting costs are going up as well. "Rising rents are also hitting workers in Oregon. The report shows a renter would have to make $36,161 a year to comfortably afford a typical one-bedroom rental. But the average renter in Oregon earns $36,096"

An average renter would need to make need to make $26.87 per hour to afford a 2-bedroom unit in Washington state.

So how do people afford to rent in these places?

If you have to make an absurd amount surely nobody rents and then prices will drop because landlords realise their buildings are empty

Right. That's what I think how do people make it if they do rent a high price.
