After some extensive conversations in the shoutbox I have decided to make a post where we all pool our tips to help newbies stream.

If anyone has tips post below, if they prove useful I will add them to the post with credits given

So to start my first tip, Quality Control. Keep your stream a decent watchable quality. Not just image but audio quality is important as well. This is down to your bandwidth among other things

Next up Face Cam Now this isn't always needed however human psychology wants to put a face to a voice, its natural for them to want to see you, it makes everything more entertaining anyway. So with regards to face cam, Keep your area clean. If its in view clean that crap up, perhaps have some game related stuff int eh background, I myself have some posters of video games and some pop culture stuff. Try keep the quality good, I suggest this [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] HOWEVER try get this second hand as brand new the cost is quite high.

Mic Get yourself some quality audio, nobody wants to hear some bad audio. I suggest something similar to this to start off with [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] Make sure you get yourself a "pop filter" which eliminates sharp pops and noises while you speak.

Now we have covered the look and sound, we need to look at layout. Try get yourself a overlay, overlays literally overlay graphics and information such as social links ontop of your game play. Its important to make sure that this and your web cam isn't too big people wanna see the game. Try to keep your web cam about a 5th the size of the game play. If you ask nicely in this area Im sure someone can help you get a fairly decent overlay

Attitude, when streaming you have to have the right attitude to the situation. If you go in expecting to earn money from doing this straight away then stop now, do this as a hobby, something you enjoy.

Consistency Starting out is always slow but you've got to be consistent to keep people coming back. Try stream the same time each time, such as 6pm till 8pm every other day.

Social media and branding When starting out you are pretty much trying to sell yourself, you need to make a brand, you need to brand yourself with that brand. Such as Dr Disrespect he has his signature outfit as well as his signature character, he is and embodies Dr disrespect while streaming. Try make a character or personality if you are lacking. Dont do what another user suggested and wear a mask 24/7 as that's just not going to work. Anyway so once you've thought of a gimmick or character we need to make social media accounts, a Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter the stuff you expect people to follow, when streaming make sure to post to each of these letting people know you are going to stream.

Engage, this is one a lot of people don't do enough of, when someone enters and puts something into the chat speak to them about what you are streaming how they are etc. At first you might notice a lot of kids joining and asking to play games with you, if you are playing fortnite or something just play a few matches with them, it gives them a sense of pride knowing they have been on stream and they are very likely to not only follow but return.

Suggested by Lost

VVVVV

Personality, this is very important. You have to actually appeal to people, briefly covered earlier. If you dont have what you consider a good personality then make a persona. Like my example earlier was Dr Disrespect, he isnt like that in real life but when he streams he slips into his persona, disrespectful over confident and sure as hell funny. I myself am pretty funny normally so I don't necessarily change when I stream but for someone new try rack a few jokes see what kinda response you get from your crowd. Try be enthusiastic about what you are doing and playing as well as enthusiastically saying hello when someone joins

Dont be stupid, this one is pretty straight forward. You are going to be in the spotlight. DON'T do stupid stuff. Like make racist jokes or joke about religion. Try not to bring anything controversial to the table at all. keep clear of it in the chat as well if someone posts that kind of stuff kindly object and warn them not to do it again, if they do then ban them. This is an easy way to instantly lose public favor.Another thing DO NOT CHEAT people will not like you cheating. This will discredit you for everything you have or will achieve

Networking, is a ridiculously good thing to do when starting out, try party up with other streamers, players, friends the more people you socialize with and gain friendship with the bigger your audience will be. When you start to gain followers remember who helped make you, return the favor.

Thats it for now, if I remember anything I will update asap

Some nice tips man. I've got some artist poster and a painting my friend did in my background wall and people mention them a lot so I could see while it's a good idea to not have a bland wall.
I still stream off my Xbox but I've bought a webcam and mixer pro so I can do mixer> lightstream and add overlays, just need to get some better overlays.

I think I'm going to go for a better camera before I go for a mic because I use my headset since I'm streaming from my Xbox directly my cameras pretty good but I've got much better internet now and think a better camera we'll do me good.
Thanks for all the tips I'll be checking this thread out for new tips all the time.

I've been wanting to get into streaming for some time now. I've experimented a little bit with fortnite and I like it so far. Thanks for this as it has some good detail on how a steam should be ran.
