A suh, dudes. What the title question is referring to is it being worth it to upscale source 1080p footage to 4K? I have been reading a lot to see if YouTube videos actually benefit from being up-scaled, and can't find any concrete evidence to say it one way or another.

I saw a video from LinusTechTips which gave the most information, but still not what I need. They shoot in source 4K, downscale their videos to 2K so they can edit easier, and then up-scale to 4K again when exporting the video to YouTube and he claims the loss in quality is so minimal that it is worth doing for them.

As for me up-scaling a source 1080p video to 4K, I have found increases the bitrate on YouTube which should allow for some better small detail quality like effects in premiere and text and things of that nature?

TL;DR: Can anyone point me to some information that is concrete for up-scaling 1080p video to 4K? Videos, pictures, documents, your personal experience, anything. Thank you all for you time.

you could just upload a short clip in 1080p and then upload it upscaled to 4K and we can see the difference and if it's worth it.

Upscaling any Image/Video from the current resolution to a bigger one will distort the quality

I am not actually up-scaling anything when editing as to make it bigger if that makes sense. I am just choosing to render the video at 4K instead of 1080p which increases the bitrate that YouTube allows. I use some 4K effects that I made in after effects and they seem to look better because they are allowed to be shown at their native resolution instead of 1080p and text on screen looks a little better in some cases, but other than those two things I can't really see a difference in quality one way or the other. And no one has any concrete information for me to go off of. Feelsbadman.
