Hey guys! I need help building my first PC. I have no experience buiding one. I do know what parts you need to build a PC and what they do, but besides that, I'm pretty useless lol. Thanks to 13 for sending me here.

Do you need a monitor within budget? If not, what monitor(s) are you using with this system?
I do need a monitor. It does NOT need to be within budget. I'm willing to spend some money on a good monitor lol.

Do you need a keyboard and mouse, or anything else(speakers, headset, etc)?
Yes I need all peripherals besides speakers and a headset. I do need a keyboard and mouse.

What is your maximum budget and currency for everything?
$800 would be my maximum budget. I'm hoping to get something decent. Like a good mid-level PC. I hope that's possible with this budget?

Do you have any interest in overclocking, or would you rather avoid it?
I would rather avoid it, unless I can find someone more comfortable overclocking it for me lol.

What exactly will the system be used for? What kind of games will you be playing and what else will you be using it for?
This system will be used for games such as Rocket League, Elder Scrolls, and Fortnite. I will be also using for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and recording guitar with a recording program.

Any preferences for brand(s), storage type/capacity, aesthetics, or anything else?
I do not have any brand preferences. Obviously, I would prefer the better brand, if there is such a thing. In addition, I'm not worried about aesthtics.

Thanks for your help, guys. Sorry that I don't know a very much about PC's, but that's why I'm here :3

Okay, so I've just tried to get the system and keyboard within budget, and then I'll leave you a few monitor choices.

Locked 6 core i5 because it's perfect for the games you want to play, programs you'll use and because you have no interest in overclocking. Solid budget motherboard and cooler will do you fine. 1x8GB RAM so you can easily add another 8GB DIMM in the future and still have room for expansion. I'd wait for RAM pricing to get better(IF that ever happens) before adding more though, and 8GB will be fine for now. 240GB SSD and 1TB HDD, pretty basic these days but should do for your needs and they're both well priced, good quality options. Easy enough to add more HDD(s) and/or SSD(s) at any point in the future anyway. Managed to get a 6GB GTX 1060 in there, thought I might have to settle for the 3GB variant(which sucks a$$). You might want to consider looking at used GPUs though, because you can find GTX 970s under £150 easily, and GTX 980s for under £200. Both of which perform not too far behind a 6GB 1060 for the most part. Also, if you were to buy a used GTX 970 or GTX 980, you could maybe put a bit extra money in to more storage/RAM or a better monitor/case. Case, is again a really solid budget option. You could get something cheaper if you wanted but the P300 is what I'd be using in a system like this.

Now, for PSU I went with the TX550M as it's a good unit, and decently priced. However, you'd be able to get away with a cheaper PSU perfectly fine;

A little bit less wattage and a little bit lower quality, but a CX450M is more than adequate for the system above. This would either allow you to save about 20 quid or put it towards a slightly better CPU;

i5-8600. Still locked, so no overclocking but slightly higher clock speed. You most likely won't notice a huge difference(if any) between the 8400 and 8600 most of the time, but the 8600 is better. Just not sure I'd spend the extra 20 quid for it personally.

Lastly, keyboard. I included a Strafe because the Strafe is a solid keyboard. I currently have a K70 which is definitely a top tier keyboard, I love it. The Strafe is like it's little brother. The reaon I included the Strafe is because it has Cherry MX Blue switches, which are my personal favourite.
Scan have a refurbished K70 with Cherry MX Speed switches for a tenner less than the Strafe;

The Strafe is great, but K70 is definitely better quality. MX Speeds are faster so like competitive CSGO players tend to prefer MX Speeds or MX Reds. MX Blues are clickier, and typically better for typing.
With either of these keyboards, the Strafe or K70, you will be stuck with red LEDs(they can be turned off)

There is another nice option if you're willing to spend a little extra on keyboard;

K70 but RGB LEDs. This one has MX Browns which are somewhat similar to MX Blues, but less 'clicky'. MX Browns are my personal 2nd favourite switch. K70 RGB is a bulletproof choice of keyboard so I'd really recommend this one tbh(it's what I'd get if I didn't already have a K70). Don't be put off by the refurbished models on Scan btw, that usually just means they've been returned because the buyer ended up not wanting them, or the boxes have been opened. Refurb units aren't going to be damaged. I've bought refurbsihed items from Scan before.

Okay, and monitors. Since I don't have a budget, I'm not really sure what to recommend, I'm just going to leave a couple of options for you at different price ranges;

£100 - basic 1080p IPS monitor. Perfectly good budget option.

£155-170 - 1080p 144Hz TN monitors. Nice if you like higher refresh rate, but I h8 TN(IPS master race) and I don't think you'd be better off with either of these monitors. That said, they are options.

£160 - 2560x1080 ultrawide, IPS. Have one of these myself, love it. Great match for a 6GB GTX 1060 or GTX 970/980.

£200-220 - 1440p IPS, either of these would also be a great match for a 1060/970/980 if you don't quite like the 21:9 aspect ratio of the ultrawide above.

£320 - 4k IPS. Likely a bit out of your price range. Great monitor at a great price and would last you years, but there are some great cheaper alternatives listed above. If you spent the 300 odd quid for this though, you wouldn't regret it.

£400 - 1440p, IPS, AND 144Hz. Killer monitor, likely over-kill for your needs and you won't be able to make the most of with a 6GB GTX 1060 anyway. It's just a pretty damn high end monitor at a decent price, that again would easily last you years to come.

Most, if not all of these monitors are VESA compatible.
Tried to double check. I know the 25UM58-P is VESA compatible. I'm 99.9% certain that the 4k, 144Hz 4k and both 1440p monitors are VESA compatible. The £100 LG basic 1080p monitor does not appear to be VESA compatible. The LG 144Hz monitor for £155 appears to be VESA compatible but I can't tell for the 144Hz AOC monitor. That said, I wouldn't recommend 1080p 144Hz for you anyway, and if you did, you'd be better with the LG monitor than AOC anyway IMO.
