Doesn't help it's a 1.4L for your first car. Although doesn't always make a difference in performance, insurance companies see it as an opportunity to charge more.

Check comparison websites. I found it was cheaper for me to remove my parents as additional drivers.

Play around with it. DO NOT LIE ON INSURANCE.

322 wrote I can't really add much to the convo since I don't live in the UK but damn do you guys get screwed on insurance. 4400 pounds for an 04 corsa. Thats more than the car costs isn't it? I have an 04 corsa (different badge though for australia, badged as a holden) which is 1.8L and the insurance is like $300 a year.

Yeah... the car cost £700 lol, may as well just drive without insurance if I crash just write it off.

Shop around get different quotes.

Young / New drivers get ****** on insurance because you're considered high risk until you turn 25. Plus it depends on your vehicle if it's a nice car expect to pay more, but if you drive like a Honda Civic or something cheap then you won't pay as much.

I started out paying almost $300 a month for just liability now I'm paying $160 a month for full coverage.

Just avoid tickets and accidents and soon you'll see your rates go down.

Driving without insurance is illegal and if you hurt someone and have none you are held liable and will have to pay out of pocket. If not then you could be sued... avoid that at all costs.. you can't just "write it off."

Have a look at MyPolicy. They charged me 1400 for the first year on my 02 1.6L Mini Cooper.
Second year dropped by 600.

It is a telematics policy with limited miles though, worth a look if you haven't already.

I had 2k a year for my 2007 Cobalt when I had it, I had driver training (which lowered the price on insurance.) Which came out to payments of $200 a month, after my first accident it went up to $230

£1200 for a 1.6 Ford Focus,
Also when checking insurance if your car as any modifications to it don't mention it to insurance company as that sends your insurance up as well also your insurance goes up even if you've got alloys unless they are standard alloys, as your a new driver chances are you'll probably end up doing modifications to it lol
