Some big changes are on the way to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. In a new blog post on the official PUBG [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] , game creator Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene laid out a development roadmap for what new features and content PUBG Corp. will add to the game in the coming months, including a new map and emote system.

In the post, Greene announced that the development team is "committing to a major content delivery cycle every two months," the first of which is slated to arrive sometime in March. "Each of these major updates will bring changes to specific systems and/or introduce new content," Greene said. He also reiterated that smaller updates will continue to roll out regularly between each major content drop.

One of these big pieces of content is a new island map, which players will be able to try on PUBG's new Experimental Test Server next month. This island is much smaller than the game's current two maps, which Greene says "should give you all a much more intense and faster paced Battle Royale experience." You can take a look at some concept art for the new map below.

Also on the way to PUBG is an emote system, which players will be able to try out on the game's Test Server "soon." Greene says the system will be regularly expanded with new emotes throughout the year. Additionally, the developers will introduce new game modes to PUBG, although Greene says it's too early to share specifics on those just yet.

Other features PUBG Corp. has in the works include an Achievements system, an in-game friends list, and the ability to voice chat with your squad in the main menu. The developer will also overhaul the third-person and first-person animation systems to make them "smoother and more reactive to the environment." You can read more about the changes coming to PUBG this year on the game's official website.
