I'm not sure what Netflix's anime section has, I haven't had Netflix in years. I watch my anime on Hulu. I can give you a list of shows but I'm not sure how many will be on Netflix. Crunchyroll is like Hulu/Netflix but it's made specifically for anime. If you don't mind ads you can watch pretty much any show on there. As for genres, yeah, it's got all the usual ones. Sci-fi, fantasy, comedy, etc. Anime is just regular TV but animated. And not in English most of the time.

Well, there are genres just like any other type of entertainment.

I prefer slice of life romances, but there are loads of genres.

I linked you to this site that shows different genres. It's called Crunchyroll. In my opinion, it is the best official streaming site. You can pay a subscription to it to not have any commercials, or you can watch like a 15 second ad every 15 minutes of a show. They also have a community just like us with forums and such. This streaming site is allowed in our forum as well as [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .

If you are looking to stay away from the anime "weeb" stereotype I would suggest not watching an anime with the Ecchi or Harem tag.

I looked at the ones on Netflix:

Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood are really good.
Attack on Titan is also a fan favorite. (I personally do not like it)
Inuyasha is an old one but a classic.
Sword Art Online is also a popular mainstream anime.

I definitely don't recommend Netflix as they change a lot of the translations, if you do decide to try others though here's my suggestions

Code Geass
Overlord
Kono Suba
Fate Zero
Naruto
Psycho Pass
Re Zero

Try Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! It has a great english dub if you don't like Japanese subtitles. I think you'll really like it. It's funny, motivating, and has some cool characters. There are action/adventure, military, and comedy themes in this anime. And it has a 9.25/10 on MAL, so most people love it.
