Paul R. Bauer had spotted a man matching a description of an armed suspect when he "Engaged in an armed physical confrontation" around 2 p.m.
He was off-duty and started chasing the subject to a downtown building and was shot multiple times in a stair well.. Police are calling it a "Senseless murder"
The officer was a 31-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department.
