I tried tinning the yellow wire point countless times and no solder would stick. I found a topic on 7sins where this guy asked if that was okay to do, I haven't even hooked it up to my jr programmer yet because I just want to be sure that soldering the yellow wire to the chassis ground is okay.

I'd mail Rodent mods about this he would be able to help and he knows how to do it all so it'd not something he wouldn't know.

you can certainly ground to a metal prong

you are good to proceed

thats also where i'd suggest permanently putting your ground from your coolrunner

dont think it makes a difference though honestly

As some members have stated you can ground to the chassis of the motherboard tabs on HDD port. Or even for the Coolrunner ground you also can ground to the ah port tab

The ground is the hardest spot to solder to sometimes this is l a common issues that most people have even myself if the motherboard is dirty.

The trick to getting a good solder point on this ground is making sure the area is clean I sometimes clean it with 90% rubbing alcohol or clean the area with a qtip before adding flux to tin the area. I have seen some people even use a scratch off pen/fiberglass pen to clean the surfaces due to the coating they put on the motherboard sometimes coats the soldering points

As rodent mentioned, a scratch pen would do wonders if the main goal is to solder to the GND point on the mobo.

I cleaned it with alcohol, scratched it, put flux over it, then tried to tin it and still nothing but I just used the av ground because that's where the ground for cool runner is gonna go anyways.

What kind of soldering iron are you using how many watts?

15watt 25 watt or do you have something better like adjustable soldering iron?
