Im not into reading in fact I hate reading but if there was one book I recommend reading it would be "Night" by Elie Weisel not sure if I spelled his name correctly but its a story written by someone who survived the holocaust and his experiences in the concentration camps its really good.

Fiction:

The Martian

Good Omens
Fantasy, comedy
An angel and a demon team up to stop the end of the world.

The Gunslinger
Action, fantasy
The first book in the Dark Tower series. The last gunslinger chases his nemesis, the man in black, across a vast wasteland.

American Gods
Action, comedy, fantasy
Shadow Moon is released from prison after his wife dies and ends up becoming friends with Odin. They then battle against and fight alongside other Gods from different cultures.

The Rum Diary
Comedy
A journalist from New York heads to Puerto Rico during the 1950's and becomes involved in drugs, schemes and decadence.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Crime thriller.
A journalist and a hacker team up to track down a serial killer.

Songs of a Dead Dreamer
Book of short horror stories

Every Sherlock Holmes story

Non-Fiction:

The Conspiracy Against The Human Race
This is a very hard book to describe. Modern day pessimism is quite often confused with cynicism. I.E "Of course it would rain every day i'm on holiday, haha!"
That's not what this book is. This book was written seemingly with the intention to disturb and upset everyone who reads it.
This extreme take on pessimism makes philosophers like Camus and Schopenhauer - typically viewed as the most pessimistic philosophers - look like happy optimists.
If you're an optimist or religious and are secure in your optimism or religiosity then give this a read and it'll be an interesting look at the other side of the coin.
If you are at all pessimistic, mentally unstable or depressed then give this book a very wide berth.

Lying
This book delves into the ethics of lying and specifically why 'white lies' are a lot worse than people seem to think.

Waking Up
Spirituality and meditation practices without religion or superstition. This is more to do with the untangling of spirituality from religion and how we can look at it in a completely secular context.

Against Empathy: The Case For Rational Compassion
This book explains why empathy shouldn't always be considered a good thing and isn't the best way to do the right thing a lot of the time.

Doing Good Better
How to best maximize your effectiveness with charity.

In The Dust of This Planet
Again, a guide to the philosophy behind pessimism but more watered down than TCATHR.

On The Heights of Despair
Same as above.

These are some of the best of each that I have read.
