What CPU and GPU do you have? What games will you be playing? What else do you use your system for?

GTX 970
i5 6600k

I play a variety of games - I'm just looking for peoples' opinions on a good monitor, I'm fairly sure that my system can handle any 1080p 144hz monitor

You definitely won't be hitting 100+ FPS on AAA titles with high settings. You'll be fine with less demanding games for sure though. If it were me, I wouldn't really invest in a 1080p 144Hz monitor for that system. I'd rather go 2560x1080 or 1440p to be quite honest.

That Acer monitor for £190 looks pretty good, but it ships from the US so I imagine you'll have some hefty shipping costs with it. So, if you're really sticking with 1080p144Hz, that AOC monitor looks like the way to go. You can get 5 quid off it at Aria, but you might be able to just run to Currys and pick one up if they're in stock locally, which would be a nice bonus.

Alternative 144Hz monitors for the same price;

I can't see you getting a 144Hz monitor for under £200 though

Whereas, you can get a 1440p monitor for £200 pretty easily;

The 27" AOC panel is TN, the Asus one is IPS, so I'd go with the Asus one.

or, you could easily get a nice 2560x1080 monitor for £150(LG 25UM58-P).

I'd honestly keep an eye on [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] to see what's going on. Deals are constantly being posted and just last week, there was a monitor 144hz 1440p monitor for just over your budget. That deals gone now but still worth keeping your eye out.

btw

Only reason I'd like to go 144hz is because I've heard from many people that it feels so much more fluid than 60hz monitors.

I care more about that than overall quality of picture if you get me, I mean the games I play most of all are like CSGO and League of Legends etc, so graphics quality is't too much of a concern, when I watch movies I normally just watch them on a retina mac, so picture quality isn't an issue, the PC I have is purely an online gaming system over like a home cinema or rpg gaming system tbh

In light of that would do you reckon 1080p 144hz is a better way to go then say a 1440p 60 hz monitor?

From what you've said, 1080p 144hz seems to be the way to go IMO. At least you'll have the choice to upgrade to 1440P 144hz and/or higher depending what comes out in a couple of years if you choose to upgrade your GPU. No point spending more now if you're happy with 1080p 144HZ.

That BENQ monitor looks alright tbh, used from Amazon shouldn't be too much of an issue. I'm not the best for monitors so aslong as you've done your research, you shouldn't encounter issues. Just make sure your GPU can output what it needs to for the 144hz [HDMI 1.3 I think]

Yeah, you've got HDMI 2.0. I didn't realise that it came out so long ago!
