Just wondering if I am able to sell an OG xbox account/name.

Need to sell account.
Even if you change the GT the old one is still attached to the account.
For example:
FEIDJWJOJDi493 changes his gamertag to dj3ooc3j23
if you looked up the account FEIDJWJOJDi493 it would forward you to the new gamertag dj3ooc3j23.
this is obviously to stop people from griefing up a game then just changing their gamertag and getting away with it. And it helps stop selling too since you can't sell it without giving away the account.

Xbox controllers
Xbox accessories
Xbox retail games
Xbox only capture cards
Broken/RROD/banned Xbox retail consoles
Examples of items that are prohibited in this section:
