I got handed down an iPhone from my grandpa after he passed but it is activation locked. Is there anyway to go around this or am I screwed without his info?

If it was handed down to you why would it be locked?

There would be no way to bypass the iCloud activation as it's there for security purposes. However, if it really was handed down to you, ask any relatives if they have proof of purchase/payments for the phone and take it to Apple. You could explain the situation and as long as you can provide proof that the phone isn't stolen, they should unlock it for you. You aren't the original owner though so they could deny your request for that. You'd be better of giving them a call to find out for sure.
