Freshmen starting high school this year will be learning about 9/11 as a historical event that took place before they were born.

Here's a little backround about what happened on 9/11/2001:

  • At 8:46 AM, a jet, Flight 11, slammed into the northeast face of the tower, creating an impact hole that extended from the 92nd to 98th floors.
  • The North Tower began its precipitous collapse at 10:28 AM.
  • Later on, at 9:03 AM, a jet, Flight 175, slammed into the southwest face of the tower, creating an impact hole that extended from the 78th to 84th floors
  • The South Tower began its precipitous collapse at 9:59 AM
  • At about 9:37 AM a jetliner, American Airlines Flight 77, flew toward the western face of the Pentagon and exploded as it smashed through the the facade, primarily on the first floor.
  • At 10:06 AM, Flight 93 went down near Somerset, PA. United Airlines Flight 93 was the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania, short of its alleged target, the Capital.

Below is a picture of the "Freedom Tower" also known as "One World Trade Center". One World Trade Center is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, and the sixth-tallest in the world.

Remember them for the Beauty and not the destruction.

I remember it happening when I was at school (im British) showing the destruction on TV's. 11/09/2001 was a shitty day in school and an even shittier day for America.

Let their memories live on in what stands there now, a towering reminder looking over the rest of Manhattan.

16 years ago, something I don't think I'll ever forget. I remember being sat on the couch watching TV and then my parents switched over to the news and at 6/7 years old, this was a horrifying sight to see.

I'm British, the events that taken place still ring in my head. The carnage, destruction. America however, this must be a shittier day, prayers to those who lost loved ones in this horrific attack.

America is in everyone's thoughts today.

I was barely 2 years old when it happened, my first acknowledgement of 9/11 was being showed a video in primary school. I didn't quite understand what had happened or what It meant but all kids can understand when something is bad.

Over the years I learnt lots more about it and came to realise the true extent of the devastation in america. About four years ago I had to write a paper on a tragedy, a lot of people in my class chose the Aberfan Distaster which happened in wales ( as i'm welsh ) but I came across the documentary 9/11 with Robert De Niro and it blew my mind. So i wrote a 7 something page essay on it I think. I'm not going to claim i'm some sort of across the waters, devoted patriot.

But my heart truly goes out to any family members and friends or have to relive the loss every single year.

Much love.

Although I wasn't old enough at the time to understand the magnitude of what had happened, it's been something which has impact just about every life in the Western World. Anyone who thinks of terrorism, immediately thinks back to the events of 16 years ago.

The way the United States came together in the aftermath, dusted itself down and flew the flag high once again is nothing short of incredible. The Firefighters, Paramedics, Police Officers, Doctors, Surgeons, and everyone who ignored their own safety to help save lives. The spirit of the American people is something that will never be forgotten, alongside remembering the lives of all of those lost.

I've visited the 9/11 Memorial, the whole new development in that area, twice now. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, they built bigger, they've built better. True defiance that terrorism will never see us give in.

I was in freshman french class first period.
I didnt know what i was watching on television.
I thought it was a movie until i noticed the live on the right bottom corner.

It still haunts me today the emotion that was shed that day for me, my school mates and those who were lost or lost someone.

A true tragic
