Hey all, my mate from university is looking to build a new PC and he more a less wants something super powerful. It'll be used mostly for gaming, rendering etc. Most importantly he said he just wants something "insane".

What is your budget and currency? 3500 GBP
Do you need a monitor? - 2 monitors (3 if fits withing budget after PC build).
Do you need a keyboard? - Yes, mechanical preferably
Do you need a mouse? - No (but if it fits withing budget after PC build then yes)
Do you need an operating system? - No
What will you use the PC for? - Gaming and rendering (for university) mostly.

He's also said:

-Wants it to be VR ready.
-Two GPUs (whichever is best for the build).
-He has 3TB HDD, so only SSD is necessary.
-He'd like a couple of choices for the case, if possible? Wants one with a large side window.
-RGB lighting.
-And finally, he wants a water-cooled system.

I appreciate it. I know it's a lot to ask for, but he hasn't built a PC in a while and wants it to be perfect for the budget.

Thanks all.

I just wanted to add this right now really quick.

For gaming, he might want to turn off his SLI/Crossfire. A good amount of games don't support multiple GPUs, they do it very poorly (such as a 2 or 3 FPS increase) or just flat out makes the FPS worse. The games he does find that work with SLI will definitely be nice, but most games he'll have to turn off SLI for them.

Also for the water-cooled PC. Have him watch how it's done before attempting it. If he goes in with just the parts in hand and hasn't watched a single thing, he could very well easily destroy his hardware. I don't if he was expecting everything can just be pre-installed like a CPU AIO or something, but the only way that PC would come "pre-installed" is if someone else got the parts and built it for him.

This is for the person(s) who helps him with the part list, because my head is pounding and looking at a bright site like PCPartPicker isn't going to happen right now. You can probably throw in a 4k monitor for his video editing, as I'm sure most video editors also happen to have some skill in photo editing where those extra pixels can really help with anything he does personally, plus the extra colour spectrum and depth. His other monitor(s) with this budget can be 1440p IPS 144Hz+ with G-sync (if Nvidia) seeing how he will use it for gaming. Ultrawide monitors might be fine, but not knowing his desk space, who knows lol. I just personally think he would benefit from a 1440p IPS 144Hz+ monitor for gaming, mainly competitive FPS games.

Thanks for the comment mate, I'll let him know. With the water-cooling, he's watched some tutorials and thinks that he's ready for the build, if it's not recommended then I'll let him know.

We don't know what software he will be using, makes it a bit harder (certain things run better on AMD/Intel side of things.)

Any preference in monitor? (Ultrawide, 4K, high refresh rates? curved?)

Would be nice to know if he wants a custom loop, or an AIO, for cooling.

Oh, sorry for missing that. I think the software (if you mean rendering software) he will be using is things like Blender, Autodesk and things like that. Using Windows 10 and running things like Steam, Office etc.

Monitor wise, he's wanting 4K monitors, not too bothered about ultrawide or curved.

Thanks.

*sorry, forgot to mention watercooling*

He's unsure of the different cooling types so I'm not sure if one is easier/better than the other? :s

If he wants to build it himself, just go for a AIO water cooler for his CPU, does an amazing job, and much easier do install.

As for the SLI GPU, I wouldn't bother, I'd just go for a high end GTX1080ti (possibly with a AIO water cooler again)

When I'm home from work I will part pick all the parts for him (I'd even build this beast for free for him!)

Thanks for the reply man! Whichever is best for water cooling really, so if you think AIO is the better option that he'll go with that.

That'll be great man, we appreciate the help!

All of the monitors have G-Sync apart from the LG one, hence why it's significantly cheaper.
