Many players left Pokemon go due to the lack of legendary Pokemon, however coming VERY soon is an event which if beaten unlock legendary Pokemon allowing them to show up into raid battles.
First event is Jul 22, 2017 Pokmon GO Fest Chicago

hey state there will be a increase in Pokemon presence some Pokemon maybe not local to you might even show up!
From what Ive read its challenges such as catch so many of this type of pokemon eg water
This isnt as exciting but still its something you will gain
This will most likely be a pichu or pikachu wearing a celebration hat from which we have seen a few times before like the Christmas hat or ash ketchums hat
Other events are as follows and follow the same kind of rewards

Along with this is going to be the legendary event. In which where players at the first event mentioned will have to fight a legendary Pokemon, if its beaten then legendary will start to appear in raids. Its hinted that's its lugia but I think it will be the three birds, Zapdos, Moltress,Articuno
