Couldnt you just download an anti-virus software, then scan your pc, and then have it quarantine it?

Im not 100% sure that is a way to do it but its worth a shot

Which antivirus did you purchase? Just ensure that you don't run 2 AVs at once.

Hi!

When dealing with viruses its important to remember that in today's age if it is just the run of the mill trojan or anything known AV's(anti viruses) will be able to detect and delete them. The way AV's work is they take known viruses and hashes of the binary and place them into a database and when they AV scans your file it checks the MD5 hash of that binary with the ones they have in the database to see if its malicious.

Some more advanced malware can actually do more heuristic testing live to determine if a application is malicious like lets say it detects in memory one process trying to either inject or become lsass or svchost.exe etc. etc. they will then alert you about it and quarantine it till you either delete it or you allow that process to do that.

Another thing to remember is that if you have a external hard drive bay a usb key you can simply install linux on the usb for live boot and then configure your computer to boot on usb.

Take out the hard drive reboot machine with the live usb key inside and then mount the hard drive using the eternal hard drive bay. Then grab only the files you wish to keep scan them incase the virus deleted them and replicated them with the malicious copy. After that you should be good to format that hard drive re install windows and you will be good as new.

Now I dont want to scare you however bootkits exist and thats something where like back with windows bash upgrade got hacked and the server hosting the DL for it was serving a malicious copy and user who upgraded on windows had the MBR (master boot record) changed along with the wiping of the first 2 hard drives that are mounted after a restart.
