I wanted a normal Gigabyte GTX 970 graphics card but could not seem to find one. Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

P.S. Budget is around 400

You can get a 970 for WAY WAY less than 400.

Buying a 970 now would just be stupid no need to unless for some reason you had one and wanted to go sli but pascal is the way to go if looking for an nvidia card

I wouldn't even SLI given recent games support on them. My 1070 SLI is a nightmare on games for 4k. Either (some) support it and it does great, some support it with very minimal FPS gains, some don't support it or it just makes the FPS worse. Once the 1080 TI Kingpin is out, SLI is gone.

A 970 would be fine if he's on a budget, also assuming he's on 1080p monitor. Not a $400 budget, but if he were going for less, 970 would be more than fine. I replied to a topic a few months back with a guy who had a 970 and was getting bad frames on BF1, so I dug up my old 970 STRIX and thankfully had a 1080p monitor and it was still going strong; better frames than he was getting. I think the 970 is probably 1080p safe for another year or two. The 970 was seen as a 1080p overkill by some as it could run SOME games at 1440p with a more than decent frame rate. It's debatable what games will be pushing in the next year or two, but I believe the 970 - if he has to/chooses to get one - will be more than enough for 1080p.

That's tragic. If you have $400 to spend, spend it on other stuff to improve the PC overall. I'd definitely be upgrading GPU as well but not to a GTX 970 since its a generation old and doesn't make much sense now. Unless you pick up a used GTX 970 for $140/150. In which case, I say go for it.

We'll need to know the make and model of your case to check for compatibility, but this is what I'd do with $400;

Storage: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ($104.33 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ($145.18 @ Amazon)
Monitor: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ($129.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $379.50

You'll want to move away from that shitty 1680x1050 monitor. You could get a nice 1080p monitor for $100, or this ultrawide for $130. Up to you really. GTX 1050Ti is more of a placeholder for a used GTX 970 or something. Although, the 1050Ti would be fine if you can't find any used cards, or need/want to buy new. I also included a nice SSD for you, you should put your OS on that.

If you do go for a 1080p monitor instead of the ultrawide, you could get a Freesync monitor and get an AMD GPU, something like an R9 280(X), or 380(X).
