Hello TTG, I'm nearly approaching the 17 year old age and I'm getting my first car for Christmas. But the problem is I don't know what car to get. The car needs to fit the category of being slightly big so I can easily fits mates in (unlike the cheap/small vauxhall corsa), cheap in insurance and a decent/reliable car. I have up to 3K to spend on the vehicle so I have a decent amount.

One car I have considered is a Ford Fiesta 1.25L Zetec.

Any reasonable suggestions are considered; thanks for reading/ideas!

By slightly big you mean any 5 door hatchback?

Honestly, there's an endless amount of 5 door hatchbacks I could list. But it all comes down to personal preference. If I was to be looking for a 5 door hatchback, I'd probably look into a ford focus or maybe even a VW Golf. If you're looking more into a 3 door, there isn't really any "big" hatchbacks, not that I can think of right now anyway. That being said, surprisingly the Citroen DS3s are relatively spacious on the inside, but I'm sure they start at 1.6 and with them being classed as "super minis" I'm sure insurance would be really pricey, even with a named driver on your policy. In turn, you could have your parents take a second policy and have you as a named driver, but that would mean you wouldn't be gaining any no years claim bonus.

Sorry for the lengthy paragraph. Once I started I got a little carried away.

I have considered the ford focus as its fairly decently priced and good insurance price too. I'll look into the VW though thanks

When I was looking for my first car only a few months ago, I noticed that you pay a lot for the German badges and build quality. I settled down on a Fiesta Zetec S [Out of your budget]. For 3k, a Fiesta isn't a bad shout.

How much more is a Zetec S to insure roughly? Could raise the budget up a little.

I have a ford focus zetec C 1.6 petrol, first car, had to pay a lot repairs wise as I bought it for 1.1k, decent car and has a bigger engine than other hatchbacks in the price range, but could also get a polo for that price which would be a good shout. But for now my focus is running great so maybe have a look at some!

I'd recommend a Ford Focus or a Volkswagen polo/golf, have a look and see what you can find, hope I've helped!
