Currently I'm driving a v6 2016 chevy Malibu LS with a Magnaflow muffler, deleted resonator and Magnaflow performance headers. I want to make my car a little louder without deleting the muffler or catalytic converter so I can still pass inspection and not do potential damage to my engine. What is a good route to go to achieve this?

Well the muffler isn't going to affect your inspections to be honest, as long as you have a cat it should be fine.

I know that but a muffler delete can do potential damage to the car itself

Unless your car is highly modded, cutting out the muffler won't damage the engine. What cutting out the mufflers will do is cause less back pressure. This will in turn make the engine want to run slightly leaner, however since you have a newer computer controlled car, the ECU will make changes on its own to make it run right. If you have a forced induction car, you actually want no back pressure at all.

Also what type of sound do you want? If you strictly want the car louder, you want the exhaust pipes as straight through as possible meaning no mufflers or cats (or take one or the other out). You could also opt for a smaller muffler such as a Flowmaster 10 series, or doing a glasspack if you are worried about keeping a muffler on.

If you want a deeper ton you need bigger exhaust pipes. Going up just a half inch in diameter makes a big difference.

As far as mufflers and inspections go, some places do require you to have a muffler. Nothing is stopping you from doing a straight pipe and welding a box around a section to look like a muffler though as if they even check it, they would just do a visual on it. If you want to go full legal though, a glasspack is in order. This is a 100% straight through muffler with baffling on the inside and fiberglass inside that baffling.

What that system does is open up the exhaust right before any restrictions. Basically what you would do is chop the exhaust right before the muffler and leave it like that. That is why you see a lot of diesel trucks that have their exhaust dumping in the center of the truck.

I ran straight Autozone flex pipe from my Y pipe back on my old V10 and had no issues. It was loud as hell though lol.

Firstly I would recommend getting different mufflers. I'm not a big magna flow fan

Secondly, you can do stuff to increase your hp and that will in turn make the car sound better. You can start off with a cold air intake
