Publisher: Reverb Triple XP

Developer: Fenix Fire Entertainment

Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4, Xbox One

Genre: Action, Adventure, Role-Playing, Massive Multiplayer

Cost: $25

Synopsis:

The year is 2046 and mankinds discovery of near-lightspeed "fold engine" propulsion has empowered mankind's Osiris expeditionary missions to the Gliese 581 system. You are the second colonization team sent by the U.N.E. (United Nations of Earth) to study potential habitable planets when your spacecraft malfunctions braking from light speed, forcing an emergency landing on the planets surface.

Overcome the dangers of an environment with unpredictable weather conditions by building a central base, expanding the structure further with modular units to grow food, create research centers, manufacturing bays and more. To further advance technologies and thrive on the planet, traverse into a world filled equally with breathtaking landscapes and alien terrors that will freeze your blood. Osiris is a beautiful game that uniquely combines inventive crafting, curious exploration, and skillful combat. Explore an alien system and colonize worlds of incredible wonders and unforgiving dangers.

Gameplay:

Osiris: New Dawn starts off with you creating your character, selecting your faction, and selecting your class then continues into a very basic and underwhelming tutorial which has you look around your crash site for some items and repair a breach in your space suit. Upon completing this tutorial the game is completely opened up for you to explore and enjoy the open environment similar to that of Ark. There is no set storyline, but they do give you a set of Missions to follow to set up your base. You can build structures, weapons, vehicles, and bots that help you in your mission to gather resources and build an amazing and beautiful base for you and your friends/faction-mates to enjoy. With a map size of 50 KM2, you are sure to have plenty to explore. While building your base, the game uses an auto-snap feature to help you put everything together and has an amazingly simplistic crafting system which is easy to use. There is no real end-game, but there is over 24 hours of gameplay in which your main goal is to make an amazing base and build all of the vehicles, weapons, and bots.

Graphics:

Even though the game is only in Steam Early Access, I can honestly say that the Graphics are gorgeous. They have implemented beautiful shadow effects and a truly immersive weather and day/night system. The monsters are not rendered very nicely and they are somewhat ugly compared to the environment, but it is almost a forgettable flaw due to the amazing environment and sky. The weapons, vehicles, structures, and bots all have a very beautiful and fluent design somewhat similar to that of the Martian. This game has set a new standard in the graphics of outer space based games.

Setting:

Osiris: New Dawn takes place on Proteus 2 which is the third moon of Thesius Prime in the Year 2046. Proteus 2 is a planet similar to Mars, with trees, grass, and a lot of mineral deposits.

Controls:

The controls for Osiris: New Dawn are fairly simple and are plastered on almost every loading screen you can imagine. I admire that they really show them everywhere, and are adding custom control schemes and layout soon. Learning the controls was fairly simple since they are shown in so many places. If you ever forget a control key, just press escape and you will get an image of the keyboard with what each key does as well as the normal Resume Game, Options, etc. option.

System Requirements:

MINIMUM:

RECOMMENDED:

Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980
Storage: 5 GB available space

Ratings:

Gameplay: 7/10
Graphics: 9/10
Controls: 10/10
Overall: 8.5/10

*I gave gameplay a 7/10 because the lack of a base storyline or quests. The game is a very open do-it-yourself kind of game. There is no real endgame, and there is no real storyline. Anything you do is at your own discretion and up to you.

Additional Comments:

If you enjoyed Ark, you will enjoy this game. Although it is only early access and it is a two-man dev team, they are really working hard and pushing updates quickly. It is extremely fun and I have logged about 30 hours already with about 10 online, and I can honestly say the servers are very stable. This game fills the gap where No Man's Sky left off, and opens all new standards to the space exploration scene. I believe it is $25 well spent, and I am almost positive you will too.
