Good day everyone. So i've seen this around a fair few times and that thing is advice on Job interviews or jobs themselves.

Now I believe I can give you a fair few tips on how to go about the interview, what kind of things are involved and how to really stand out as an individual.

Currently I have 3 years management experience, 2 years I spent managing a shoe store for a very large company and the other year I spent as an area manager managing 16 stores across an area of the south east (for the same company).

Below I will try and cover everything I can to help you and give you the best fighting chance in what you do, since I know a lot of you are at or getting to the age of leaving schools, colleges or even just looking for another job.





What we look for on a Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Firstly I'm going to cover what we look for in your CV.

The main thing we check for is work experience, this is the first thing we check before education. A strong work experience can give us a better idea on whether you are ready for the kind of roll you are applying for and can really make you stand out against someone with a higher education.

CV layout is a key thing. Nicely spaced sections including different topic headers can make it easier for us to skim read and easier for us to look at what you've previously done. Including a photo along with your CV is always a good thing to do as well, since we are able to put a face to what we see on paper.


Including topics such as;

    Contact Details
    Education
    Work Experience
    Interests
    Skills
    Volunteer Work + Things you believe in


As an example, nicely spaced sections including dates and what was involved in certain rolls and education:

Personally I have always and always will prefer to employ people with at least some work experience compared to a straight A student, mainly for the reason that they have some experience communicating with other employees (if you're going for retail then customers also) and are more able to learn the systems and rolls in place to help them function and learn what needs to be done.


References;

Now this is an important section, when it comes to references you definitely don't want to use family, employers tend to look down on this because they will always be biased towards you, this includes family friends.

Simply, if you're struggling to find references, e.g haven't had a job yet, you can simply add teachers from your schools/colleges. Now, you would want to include a head of year (most schools have this) since they hold no bias towards pupils, and also a teacher you believe will write you a good reference if needs be.

Never include too many, maximum I would say to use would be 4 and a minimum of 2, this gives your employer more of a choice.



I will now talk about what's involved in an interview.

An interview is a very simple process and this is where we learn everything about you.

Here I will provide a few example questions of what you can expect and the rough layout and what we expect to see from you.

An interview will usually start with an introduction and getting to know you (if done properly). This will usually last for around 15 minutes so the more you speak the better.
We will ask questions about what you do in your spare time, what interests you, what you find stimulates you and how you would describe yourself as a person.

After the talking about yourself we get into the more serious part where we will ask you questions based on work experience. The layout is quite simple, we will ask you a question and follow it up with sub squestions e.g;

When have you ever worked in a team?

a) How did you feel this went?
b) How do you feel it affected others around you?
c) What was the end result?


We will ask questions from a few sections which will involve work experience, what and how you would cope with certain situations and whether these situations have ever happened before.

Have you ever worked with someone who has been particularly frustrating?

a) How did this make you feel?
b) Did you do anything to solve the situation?
c) What was the end result of this?


These kind of questions come around very often so you have to be prepared for them.




Group interviews.

Now this will take the same form as a regular interview, but instead of having one on one talks With your interviewer you will be asked to introduce yourself in front of a group of others. Here you have to remain calm and remember to stay confident and speak loud and clearly. (The more you speak the better)

Most group interviews will involve you getting into smaller groups and solving a problem or how you would go about things. Essentially this makes this easier for us to go round and really see who stands out.
One thing I will say is if you're speaking a lot you will stand out more.

Whilst solving these problems try to take charge, get the others around you to do certain things to benefit the group, this shows strong leadership skills and someone who can delegate with confidence.




Here is a bunch of stuff I believe will help a lot of you out. I will update this daily with more advice and examples to help give you the best chance and understanding possible.

I hope this helps a lot of you out there, when I first started going for jobs I had nothing to help, and really having something there to look at and refer to can truly help you when it comes down to finally getting to that point.

It entirely depends, i've never really had a nervous interviewer and I was only ever nervous on the first interview I done.

We get sufficient training in order to fulfil interviewing standards.

I suppose if you've been doing it for a while you get used to it. If it were me I'd be pretty nervous as well.. it's like going into the unknown about a complete stranger I guess.

Yeah at first it can be a bit daunting for both parties involved but you would be surprised how easy it is, it's really not that bad.
