Synopsis
From Halfbrick, the creators of Fruit Ninja and Monster Dash comes their newest and biggest adventure yet! Lock and load through the history of time as a tough-as-nails commando named Barry Steakfries, who is looking for nothing more than to shoot some zombies and make it back in time for a hearty dinner!

The evil Professor Brains has sent hordes of undead to the furthest reaches of time to destroy mankind, but Steakfries wont be taking that lying down. Hell take it with a gun, a Zombie T-Rex and a whole repertoire of cheesy one-liners!

Shoot up ninjas, mummies, cavemen and massive bosses with a huge variety of weapons and explosives!

Bonus Survival mode to take your zombie-blasting skills to the next level, with Game Center leaderboards and achievements!

Age of Zombies is the definitive action-comedy experience for the iPhone and iPad!

Gameplay
Age of Zombies sees you control the character Barry Steakfries, commonly seen in Jetpack Joyride and Monster Dash. You are battling the evil Professor Brains and his hordes of the undead in this incredibly unique birds eye-view zombie shooter. You move Barry around the levels whilst making sure you aren't hit, shot or attacked by the zombies. You are equipped with a standard pistol, but you can find pickups around the map which will give you other weapons such as flamethrowers, shotguns, smg's and other weaponry. You can also find ability pickups around the map such as the hoverboard which makes you zoom around the map much faster to help you escape those tricky situations, and shields to protect you for short periods of time. There are several different stages, you start off in the Prehistoric time period where you fight caveman zombies and a t-rex, move on to the 1930's where you fight against gangsters and a mafia with 1930 era weaponry. You go on to Ancient Egypt and Ancient Japan to fight ninjas, and eventually you will get to the Future era where you battle against cyborgs and the final Professor Brains boss. Another way you can play this game is in Survival Mode. You fight on a map of your choice against an endless horde of zombies to get the highest score you possibly can, utilizing the large arsenal of weapons and abilities that are thrown at you.

Graphics
The graphics in this game are reminiscent of old arcade games, the style is smooth and cartoony with detail on every aspect of the game. This game is seen from a birds eye-view and is 2D in some senses, as you can only move up and down the screen in 2 dimensions, but the environment, like the walls and obstacles on the ground are projected in 3D and have a height to them. I really like the attention to detail in this game, there is always something aesthetically pleasing wherever you are wandering around. I also like the way the zombies die, their bodies almost instantly collapse in to a crimson pile of blood, it is different to the animations in most games but that makes is different and fresh.

Audio
The audio in this game is also something that compliments it all over. The characters have dialog in cutscenes, but there is no speech, only text on the screen. I think having a character talking would make it seem a bit weird. I say that there is no dialog, but when you pick up a weapon you hear a low pitched almost mumbling voice say 'shotgun' or 'grenades' depending on what item you pick up. The sound effects that this game has match the game very nicely, each of the different weapons have their own distinct sound when they are fired, when other events in the game happen they all have their own individual sounds which make the game cleaner overall.

Controls
The controls in this game is where I think the game is let down a bit; you control the character with two virtual d-pads, 1 on either side of the screen. The one on the left is to move and the one on the right is to look around, when you move the left d-pad to look it also shoots in whichever direction you are looking. The thing which makes the game hard to play sometimes is how the d-pads move . If you are pointing the d-pads upwards then the d-pad will also move up and when you get to the boundaries of the screen this causes a lot of problems, and if the d-pad gets too far in to the center of the screen then it can obstruct your view of the game which can be a major problem. I would like it if there were multiple different control methods that could be changed in the settings, like there is in Tank Hero, a game that I previously reviewed where the controls work very similar to this game.
