Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Platform(s): PlayStation, Dreamcast, Windows
Genre: Survival Horror
Players: 1

Synopsis

Your most primal fears grab you on this new journey into survival horror from the creators of Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2. Suspicious and terrifying... the world's most renowned scientist has disappeared and you've been recruited to investigate on a mysterious, remote island. Suddenly, out of the mist appears a predator, which has haunted mankind's imagination for centuries... experience the pure terror!

Story

The story takes place on an isolated island called Ibis Island during the year 2009. An agent, Tim, from the Secret Operation Raid Team (SORT) is sent in to investigate the laboratory. During his mission he learns that the doctor, Dr. Edward Kirk who runs the facility -that was also reportedly dead for several years- is actually running a top secret program to build a super weapon of some sort. Then, SORT sends in four more agents (Regina, Gail, Rick, and Cooper) to capture Kirk. During their raid on the island, Cooper, deploys the parachute too early and is separated from the rest of his team. He is lost in the forest and ends up getting eaten by a T-Rex. The rest of the team that is now inside the facility, discover numerous dead bodies of scientist and security personnel. They then learn that dinosaurs were the cause of this and proceed to find the power source to turn the power back on. Along their way to the power room, they encounter several dinosaurs they have to kill. Although they are now trying to escape the island, they still have to capture Dr. Edward Kirk in the process.

Gameplay

To start off the game you are given three characters to choose from: Regina, Gail, or Rick. Once you have chosen a character of your choice, you are deployed to the island to capture the doctor. Along the way you will encounter numerous dinosaurs, traps, hidden rooms, and a team of mercenaries guarding the doctor. You start off with one pistol, health packs, and tools you will need to open doors. Whilst you are killing off dinosaurs one by one, spooky things will happen such as dead bodies falling in your face, hidden traps that will lead you down a tube to a dinosaur cage, and dinosaurs eating you or your partners alive. Weapons are scattered throughout each mission that get larger every other mission. Some weapons will be hidden and you'll require some that pertain to the objectives. At the end of each mission, you will have to fight a boss as well. During the first few missions it'll just be a Velociraptor, next few a Triceratops, and once you have gotten near the end, it'll be a T-Rex that may, or may not, be teamed up with a few Velociraptor. Unfortunately this will be most of the game, very repetitive and you can not play co-op with another player. Nor is their any multiplayer leaving room for almost no replay value.

Graphics

The graphics in this game are surprisingly really good, mostly the cut scenes that look outstanding. Everything else is pretty sharp and clear, both characters and dinosaurs, each mission is fairly long and they each have a lot of effects that happen accordingly to what you do. Lighting is also very excellent with shadows being almost precise, lighting from outside makes the facility look outstanding, and everything from shooting to the dinosaurs eating each other look very realistic. Characters will also begin to sweat after a while and if wounded, they will bleed and leave spots on the ground, which also looks well. Although their is a lot of action and detail every where, the game does not lag at all. Every moment runs extremely smooth leaving for a game that will not disappoint, physically or graphically.

Controls

Since there aren't any special moves or using your hands, the controls are very simple. That being said, if you have ever played a horror style game, namely Resident Evil, this game has basically the same layout. Triggers will shoot, analogs move, and buttons will open doors, heal others and yourself, jump, and pick up weapons. The D-pad is never used unless you prefer that over analogs.
