Synopsis

Europe 1942. These are desperate hours for the Allied forces as the Nazi war machine rages across a devastated European landscape. With the British on the brink, Lt. William Holt of the OSS is sent on a secret mission by order of the President of the United States. On his own, or with his squad, Holt is pivotal in helping to turn the tide in four of the most crucial battles leading to victory in Europe. Medal of Honor: European Assault returns the series to to Europe in a sequel that features advances in enemy and compatriot AI, plus a more open game design structure.

Story

European Assault has a unique story to it viewing World War II in the eyes of Lieutenant William Holt that is deployed to support three different nations in three different fronts. It begins with him parachuting into France to help the resistance and train with them to know the area, which eventually leads to meeting up with the Americans in Belgium. After that he is shipped to North Africa to help the British defeat Rommel and his army of tanks, then he goes to the eastern front with a private in the Red Army to push back the German forces from Russia. In the end of each front, you storm the German Reichstag and see how each army handles it and confronts the most fortified position of the Nazis.

Gameplay

In this version of Medal of Honor there are four fronts you get to battle in against some Nazis. In the first area, you are in France and make your way across Europe eventually ending up in Belgium. During this time, you are just a beginner fighting against some ground troops, unlocking weapons, and assassinating top Nazi officers. During the second part, you end up in North Africa with some of the best British fighters there are using tanks, planes, and thousands of troops to battle your way through the desert pushing back Rommel and his army to the Mediterranean. Last but not least, you fight along side a Russian private pushing the Germans out of their homeland until you reach the border. Here you will encounter heavy snow, brutal winds, very intense Russian officers, and a weak and struggling German army, though it is the hardest part of the game.

In multi-player, you can play with up to three other players in either Free-for-All, Axis vs. Allies, or Deathmatch. Deathmatch is a lot like Free-for-All though there are flags you can capture that give you points just like kills do, basically a mixture of Free-for-All and capture the flag. There are about a dozen different maps to choose from though that differ in size, some large, some tiny. Each map has numerous weapons you can pick up and even spawn points you can capture and hold.

Graphics

Most of the game does look pretty good for the most part. Environments are very designed looking a lot like the actual front, the cut-scenes look excellent, weapons and vehicles don't look cheaply made and square, and nothing is left bland or unfinished. The only unattractive sight are the characters. They don't look very well designed making most look the same and even the exact same color skin tone. They all have the same dull and blocky face that make for a very unappealing sight. The only real difference you will notice are the uniforms, which most are wearing the exact same one, with their respective armies. Even those aren't really that detailed, but they get straight to the point.

Controls

Since there are new features to this game it's not as simple as the previous ones. Most of it is the same as your typical FPS, though the vehicle controls may be a little complex leaving you trying to learn them for about five minutes. Besides that though, if you have experience playing first-person shooters, this game will be a breeze. If not, you may want to open up the manual and learn the vehicle controls beforehand.
