Many weapons from the era are at your disposal: call in strategic air strikes, a swarm of paratroopers, or quietly shoot the enemy from a distance with your sniper rifle. Never before has a plastic war reached this size and scale. Dive into the trenches! It's Real Combat. Plastic Men.

Story

The Tan army is on a war path to conquer the world. You, the Green army, must defeat this powerful regime in sixteen different cities throughout the "globe". First you storm the beaches of a city on the beautiful coast of a country destroying their communications array, and by the time you know it, you are destroying their headquarters in the heart of their motherland. Along the way you will meet fellow resistance groups such as the Blue and Grey army that will join forces with you to finish them off for good. However, they aren't very powerful due to their lack of technology and organization, and will soon be crushed by the Tan's far superior and overwhelming force. It is then up to you, and only you, to reach the heart and kill every single last one of them.

Gameplay

In the campaign, or so-called "Invasion" mode, you battle the Tan army in sixteen different missions that all have objectives that get more challenging along the way. These will all be shown during the loading screen and can be opened from the start menu. At first it's a simple destroying of a radio tower than soon gets to battling numerous tanks along with men and mines. You play as one man with a rifle that has unlimited ammo, a bayonet, and a few grenades the entire time, but in each mission you can find whatever is that you need to complete the objective or destroy the enemy such as bazookas, mines, mortars, flamethrowers, sniper rifles, airstrikes, and helicopter support.

In multi-player mode, which can be played against 2-3 AIs or online, is a very fun experience and is only free-for-all. You can choose between whichever army to play as (Green, Tan, Blue, or Grey) and have about twenty different maps to choose from, all with a great variety of environments and weapons. You can set it to however many credits each player starts with and adjust the time limit for up to thirty minutes. There are a myriad of things you can use with these credits such as jeeps, tanks, troops, mines, turrets, health stations, repair stations, radio towers, and bunkers with either a heavy machine gunner, sniper, or anti-tank specialist. In order to win these matches, you must drain all of the enemies tickets down to zero.

Graphics

Army Men World War has some pretty decent graphics. Being plastic toys makes for a very amusing scene. The maps all have great detailing and get effected by all the explosions leaving marks on the ground, dead enemies will leave bits and piece all over the map, destroyed vehicles will stay in place all burnt up until the end, and the flamethrowers even melt people at a slow pace. The toys themselves and vehicles also have a lot of detail in them, however, when they are destroyed they just look like a black box for the most part with some flames on them. The game will also lag from time to time and even freeze due to the detailing of the map and all the action going on since there are four different armies all battling each other simultaneously. Given this, it'll be quite the challenge to even hit an enemy most of the time making a close and personal experience that will cost you the game most of the time.

Controls

Being a sort of strategy game where you look down on the battlefield, the controls are very simple. You pick, set, build, and move to a designated location all with one button. Looking around and aiming may be a challenge, but it's not a space ship. That being said, it will take some time to get used to since aiming play a huge part and won't be easy to learn if you're new to these kind of games.
