Synopsis

It's party time! SONIC SHUFFLE allows you to play as your favorite characters from the SONIC THE HEDGEHOG series in a party game for the Sega Dreamcast. Play as Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Knuckles, and many more characters as you compete in environments straight out of SONIC ADVENTURE. These environments are so realistic, you'll swear you're playing in real life! Featuring intense mini-games, unique cel-shading graphics, and pumping music, this is one Sonic game you don't want to miss!

Story

Sonic Shuffle takes place in a dream world made up of numerous dimensions' dreams called Maginaryworld. There is a perfect precioustone that is guarded by the goddess of dreams, Illumina. Some time when she went away for a short time, an evil monster known as Void, stole the precioustone and destroyed it, scattering pieces of it all over the universe. So Illumina then searches for a hero to find all of the pieces, basically telling Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles to find them to prevent Maginaryworld from vanishing. However, there is one problem, Dr. Eggman has followed them into Maginaryworld.

Gameplay

In single-player mode, the player must collect the most precioustones in each board. There are five boards in total: Emerald Coast which is a water map, Fire Bird is on a plane that breaks apart during the game, Nature Zone has alligators and structures that make it troubling to reach some stones, Riot Train is just a moving train that breaks apart much like Fire Bird, and The Fourth Dimension Space which is just in space, but does have some secret teleporting spots that you should watch out for. Each board also has different kind of spots you can land on such has blue spots that give you rings, red spots that take away rings, green question marks that are either mini games or mini events, purple face spots are battles or duels, and random quest that are specific to the board.

There are also eight different characters to choose from (four of which you have to beat the story to unlock): Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Super Sonic, Big the Cat, Gamma, and Chao. Each character has it's own unique specialty. Sonic double downs if you choose the same card two turns in a row, Amy, Knuckles, and Tails all have little short cuts they can use that allow them to use her hammer, climb on the side of walls, or use his tail to fly over gaps. Super Sonic triples his moves if the same card is chosen twice, Big can stop at any time regardless of the spaces required to move, Gamma can shoot in battles that give him a huge advantage, and Chao instantly wins all battles.

The essence of the game is to collect the most stones, however, you can win if you have the most rings, win the most mini games, or just generally have the best stats at the end. This is only for multi-player mode though, not story. In story you have to collect the most stones in order to advance to the next board.

Graphics

The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. Every board is highly detailed, characters look amazing, destruction of certain maps look flawless, cell-shading that is so spot on, and the artwork during mini events is just on a different planet. There are times that objects will look very pixelated, but that is just the random frame drops that occur during the game for absolutely no reason. Oddly enough, this does not ever happen during extreme moments such as during the end of every map when an "Accident" happens. During this time is when the most action happens. This game is way beyond it's time.

Controls

Very simple controls. It's a party game so there isn't really much to do other than choose a card, move, and finish. There are literally only about four different buttons you ever have to press. So easy, someone who's never played a video game in their life could learn in five seconds.
