Synopsis

Buff Knight is a 2D Pixel RPG Runner where youre constantly on the move. Kill the invading monsters with your sword or by timing your use of spells carefully! As you progress the game becomes more intense with stronger and uglier monsters! Collect artifacts and upgrade your items & attributes to become the most buff Knight the world has ever seen!

Gameplay

This is a somewhat good 2d side scrolling game that I have spent some amount of hours on. The creators do call this an rpg game, but there really isn't much added in this game to make it a type of rpg game. Now, that doesn't make this game bad right away, but it would have been nice to get more dialogue and other rpg features to make this game even better. From the start you can play either story mode or endless mode. In story mode you will go on a journey to save a princess that has been stolen from the castle. As you are playing you can upgrade your character to make him better and defeat bigger enemies. In endless mode you have most of your upgrades partially maxed out which helps you battle the bigger enemies. As you move along the level you can collect tons of coins, gems, and keys to help unlock new things and upgrade more of your abilities. The whole game whether it be endless mode or story mode is pretty much walking down a path, killing some enemies, more walking, and more killing. It gets pretty repetitive and it does get boring after a while. In the beginning of story mode your character will die a lot as he has little to no upgrades making him vulnerable. Every death though you are given the option to buy upgrades from the store before you start over so that you can become a lot better. From time to time you will run into chests, barrels, and other objects containing coins and possibly other things. The player runs automatically so you are forced into the battle no matter what. Using the power attack on the bottom right part of the screen is a must as it devastates enemies with a nasty blow. There is also no clear way to know how far you have progressed in the game which I really didn't like. There are tons of variety when it comes to monsters which I really do like a lot. Overall, this game doesn't add to many components to make this game fun enough and calling it an rpg is kind of pointless.

Graphics

The graphics in this game are pretty good which sort of makes up for the lack of gameplay that they have included. As you play you will sometimes notice that the background has changed introducing new monsters and a new type of feel to the game which I really do like. This game is played from a side-scrolling view and brings back 8-bit graphics to make it seem cartoony and just plain fun. There are tons of detail in the monsters, backgrounds, weapons, and more. There are many monsters, but not to much variety when it comes to the looks of the monsters which kind of disappointed me. Collecting coins and gems is awesome in this game as they leap across you screen into you coin bar. Using the power attack is great as the look of the lightning strike is pretty cool. Overall, with the complement of the awesome music and 8-bit styled graphics I really do enjoy it a lot.

Controls

The controls in this game are actually quite simple as you really don't have that much interaction in this game. Your character runs automatically so you don't have to worry about pressing any buttons to do that. You can break barrels, open up chests, and destroy monsters with your sword by tapping on them. On the bottom right hand corner of the screen is the power attack which can be used to stun enemies and defeat them with one hit. Obtaining more life and mana is through the bottles located on the bottom left side of the screen. Overall, the controls are easy enough to make this game sort of fun, but more controls would have been better.
