Synopsis:

Need for Speed: Carbon, also known as NFS Carbon or NFSC, is an Electronic Arts video game in the Need for Speed series. Released in 2006, it is the tenth installment, preceded by Need for Speed: Most Wanted, succeeded by Need for Speed: ProStreet in release order and succeeded by Need for Speed: Undercover in chronological order. This was the first game in the series to gain the PEGI rating of 12+.[citation needed] The game is a sequel to 2005's Need for Speed: Most Wanted. The locations of both Most Wanted and Carbon (Rockport and Palmont, respectively) are featured in the 2010 MMO game, Need for Speed: World. The PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance versions of the game are called Need for Speed Carbon: Own the City, set in a fictional city named Coast City with a significantly different storyline and also featuring different AI teammate abilities. In 2009, a version of Own the City was also released on the Zeebo as a pre-installed game.

Gameplay:

Welcome to Need for Speed Carbon. A very fast paced and intense racing game that throws you right into the action. This game is actually pretty fun and I found it fun the first time playing the game which I was a bit surprised by this. I am not really a car racing type of person so I was just assuming this game was not going to impress me or be fun for me but I was completely wrong. The career mode in this game is actually extremely fun and what happens is you are the new guy and start from the bottom and work your way up capturing territories as you progress through the game. This game offers a few different types of cars which all have there own pros and cons I honestly enjoyed using the tuner cars sense the drifting in this game is pretty intense I found this car type did a really good job at drifting around turns. I actually did enjoy the game play for this game but I do not think this game is meant for everyone. I think this game is really for gamers that enjoy urban style street racing, anyone might like it for a little bit but I do not see a lot of gamers playing this game. The urban style street racing this game is trying to pull off actually did a pretty good job at it. I found myself really finding it quite difficult at times racing in a urban environment and I would have issues trying to pass other cars because of this. But it was not frustrating but more of a challenge while racing which I did enjoy try to get around other racers and try to stay on the track. This is really one of few racing games I have played and actually enjoyed. Overall I think the game play is really fun and I really enjoyed the customization you can do on your cars. I really like the idea behind capturing territories as you progress through the career mode which will really help the gamer feel involved with what is going on. Need for Speed Carbon is for sure a game that is fun and worth checking out but I do not recommend it to everyone I think only gamers that enjoy racing games would enjoy a game like this.

Graphics:

I was not sure exactly what to expect when it comes to the graphical side of Need for Speed Carbon. But to my surprise this game actually impressed me pretty well with the over look of the game. The detail in video games is something I especially look for and quite honestly this game has pretty good detail which I was not expecting. Really everything is pretty detailed from the cars to the atmosphere and surrounding you are racing in. Honestly for a racing game I think the detail is pretty impressive. This game has a lot of neon colors that I really thought were going to be kinda over done and make the game difficult to play but honestly even with these bright colors the game is still very playable and honestly might even make the game play better because of the neon colors. The physics of this game are just amazing and I really could not find anything wrong with the graphical side of this game. Overall the graphics for this game are honestly quite impressive and I really enjoyed the attention to detail it has. I think all the bright colors actually make the game play better and all the AI cars move really good and help make the gamer feel like they are actually racing.

Controls:

I was not sure how the control were going to feel for me when I first picked this game up. Sense I am not a big car racing gamer I was not use to a racing control layout so I really got first hand how the controls work in this game and I can honestly say I think they fit the game pretty well. The controls are pretty basic and fit the game which makes it a lot easier for any gamer that is new to a game like this. The controls are pretty easy to retain after racing a few times and I really did not find any issues with the control layout at all. Overall the controls for Need for Speed Carbon are basic but do fit the game. It is easy to retain them after a few races which helps the gamer focus more on the game rather then the control layout. I personally like the control layout for this game and think it fits the game just fine.

Overall:

Gameplay: 9/10
Graphics: 9/10
Controls: 9/10
Overall: 9/10
