Story:

Welcome to Age of Empires II, this is the medieval times and our lands are greatly divided. It will be up to you to grow our colony and help use prosper and become bigger then the other colonies. Our biggest issue right now is the lack of resources we have and if you do not solve this issue we will not survive as a colony at all. But this unfortunately is not our only thing to worry about. We also need to make sure we are defended well from the other colonies because if we do not have defenses we will be pushed out of these lands or even worse killed. As our king your ultimate goal should be to save our colony and at the same time destroy the other rival colonies and push them out of this land. Even if that means making alliances with other friendly colonies to meet these goals then you should do so. Good luck to you and the adventure that awaits you.

Gameplay:

Age of Empires II is a really awesome medieval based strategy game that will really have you thinking at times and will keep you on the edge of your seat. This game involves a lot of strategic thinking and will test you in many ways. I personally really enjoy playing this game sense I grew up playing it I have a lot of childhood memories with this game which makes it even better. You start out with a small colony with a few citizens who can collect resources for you to either build buildings that will make your colony bigger or the resources can be used to create soldiers or defenses to help attack other colonies and defend your own colony. As you become stronger and start venturing out into the foreign land you will come across a lot of wildlife and enemies so you need to travel in a big group if you want to be able to get around and possibly capture other buildings. You can choose between thirteen different colonies to choose from with all of them having different things from the rest. Once chosen you will get to start your adventure with that colony with the big goal of destroying all other colonies that are not on your team. From the menu you can choose a few different game modes from campaign to a quick play and even a sandbox type mode. I personally do enjoy the campaign a lot, I think it is really fun and pretty challenging at the same time. The quick play is a mode that allows the gamer to choose how many other colonies are on the map at one time. You also get to choose the map you want to play on and control all the game settings before starting. Then the sandbox mode lets you spawn in anything you want into the game and test it out and see how things react or what will happen. Overall the game play is really fun and I really enjoy playing this game. I like all the different game modes it has to offer and think the campaign is really good. I like how interactive this game is and how much fun the game is. I think anyone would enjoy this game. I do recommend this game to anyone.

Graphics:

The graphics for Age of Empires II are a little out dated from what you would see today but there are still a few good things about the graphics for this game. First off This game has a lot of different colors and shades of colors to it that one might think would be over whelming but really it is not. I think everything in game looks okay and you can tell things apart even when zoomed out all the way. This game does though have a lot of things I do not like when there is a big battle going on. When fighting if there is a lot of troops they will walk through each other and all bunch up into one huge mass that just does not look good. I wish this was not so because it does not look realistic at all. Detail is a huge thing for me in gaming and honestly this game is lacking a bit of detail which is a disappointment. There is detail in it but just not as much as I was looking for. Overall these graphics though not impressive are still quite good and do make the game playable. I personally was not impressed by the graphics for this game and think they lack a lot of potential that they could have had. The detail is there but not a lot and some things in this game just do not really look real at all which is something that bothers me too. Even with this game being released in 1999 I would think the graphics would have been better then what was there.

Controls:

The controls for Age of Empires II are extremely basic and really easy to understand and learn. I personally found no issues when first learning how to play the game and understand the control layout. I think the controls really do fit the game well and really make the game more enjoyable sense you can just focus on the game and not have to try to remember any controls while playing. There is a tutorial you can play if you think you may need to and honestly it is quite good and I have found myself playing it from time to time to just refresh myself on the control layout. Overall the controls for this game fit the game well and I personally like the control layout for the game. I do not think anyone would have any issues learning these controls but if you do the tutorial will be able to teach you everything you need to know in order to be able to play the game.
