Synopsis

Enter a mesmerising trance of co-dependence in Duet. The rules are simple: control two vessels in sync, survive against all odds and keep calm.

Gameplay

Throughout my time playing duet I found this game to be addicting and fun, but lacking some content that wanted to keep me playing for more. The game starts you out on story mode which has over 40+ levels divided up into nine chapters. There is no real story to this game other then just moving the circles through certain obstacles. When starting the game they give you a basic rundown of how it works. You simply touch and hold either the left or right side of the screen in order to make the circles rotate around walls and many other objects as they are bound together. If the circles hit into the objects you will lose the game and have to start from the beginning of the level. Each level isn't too long only taking me roughly around 10 minutes or less to complete at times. Puzzles are not random so learning the moves for levels gets easier as you play. The soundtrack for the game fits well with it and really makes you more relaxed. Each level is narrated with short quotes to get you into the rhythm of the game. The background of the game also has flashy shapes that go with the beat of the music which I like a lot. After a while I found myself taking breaks though as this game can tend to hurt your eyes after playing it for long periods of time. If you complete the story mode and want to play more chapters you will have to purchase them for $2.99. Overall, this game is very fun to play and everything from sound to visuals works well, but I do not think this is a game to keep playing repetitively unless you buy premium for more levels.

Graphics

Duet's graphics are very unique and amazing to look at. The game is very simple, but the graphics are complex. The circles have a colorful tail while spinning and when hitting walls and other white objects with the circles they splatter on collision causing colors to stain the objects. The game is played from a birds eye view and I think they did a great job with the look of it. As you play the background of the game has many different shapes that move and morph into other shapes with the beat of the music. This creates a difficult challenge while playing as you can sometimes get distracted with the background. Walls and other objects tend to have a pulsing effect that goes with the beat which I do like. The game runs very smoothly and I had no problems with any frame issues while playing. Overall the graphics are great and really make this game fun to play and look at.

Controls

The controls for this game are very simple and easy to understand. In the beginning of the game they give you a short tutorial on how to rotate the circles left to right. You simply hold the left or right side of the screen in order to rotate the circles 360 degrees so that you can dodge oncoming objects. While I as playing I noticed some little bugs with touch recognition, but it really didn't effect my gameplay experience very much. Overall, I think that the controls fit extremely well with the game and that it really makes it a great experience.
