Release Date: September 20, 2012
Developers: Runic Games
Publishers: Runic Games, Perfect World
Platforms: Microsoft Windows
Genre: Action, Adventure, RPG
Players: 1-6
Rating: 9

Synopsis:

Torchlight II takes you back into the quirky, fast-paced world of bloodthirsty monsters, bountiful treasures, and sinister secrets - and, once again, the fate of the world is in your hands! Torchlight II captures all the flavor and excitement of the original game - while expanding the world and adding the features players wanted most, including online and LAN co-op multiplayer. Torchlight II is fast, fun, and filled to the brim with action and loot. Adventure solo or online with your friends!

Story:

As you and your team enter the cavern you notice all the treasure and mystery that surrounds the cave. As you start moving into the cave you hear a rumble as the cave floor starts to shake and all of a sudden you get ambushed by multiple species of monsters. As you and your team fend them off you come across a chest and when you open it you realize it is filled with treasures and wonder. As you leave the cavern you move on to your next great adventure.

Gameplay:

Torchlight II, like it's predecessor Torchlight, is a massive adventure packed role playing game (RPG). No matter where you go there is always action and adventure just around the corner. If you are looking for those fun dungeon games you can play with friends or alone then this is the game for you. As you level up you will start to unlock more armor, weapons, and abilities to use against your foes. The game has so much to offer and even at level 21 I still have not explored the entire map. The game has that feel to it that always keeps you on your toes as you move deeper into the darkness looking to see what great treasures await. There is a ton of quests in this game as well. So for those of you that like questing and adventure this game is for you. I recommend playing with friends or with a random group online so it is easier to get things done with six people instead of one.

There are four classes to choose from (Embermage, Outlander, Berserker, and Engineer). They all have there own abilities, weapons, and armor that can only be used for their class. As you start getting to higher levels you unlock more abilities to use your points on and will start to unlock some pretty cool armor and weapons. All the classes are pretty well rounded I have not noticed a class that is more powerful then the other (when they are around the same level). I have used the Embermage a lot and is by far my favorite character to play on. Not only do you get to choose between different classes but there are also companions to choose from when making your character, they have everything from a wolf to a lama and there is a lot of different ones to choose from which help you fight and carry loot.

Torchlight II also has a wide range of mods for the game that you can download and tryout. They have everything from increase gold and treasures in chest to being able to add more playable characters and companions. With all the different mods available to use, players are able to play the game many different ways and are able to make there modded games fun for everyone. The multiplayer is really fun as well and is always more fun playing with friends. When playing multiplayer if your group is going to use mods then everyone in your group MUST have the same mods on otherwise the players in your group who don't have then on will not be able to find your game. But if you don't have any friends who play this game yet then no need to worry there is a vast community of players who you can find online while playing to team up and take on your foes.

Graphics:

The graphics in this game are unique and fit this game perfectly. With all the blends of bight colors it is a sight to see. Especially when in combat all the bright and dark colors mixes perfectly to fix the atmosphere of the game. When playing online I have not noticed any lag or problems with frame rate while playing. I have never been disconnected either. The graphics are purposely made to look almost like a cartoon. But some how it fits the game well and looks good while playing. The default camera is set to almost a birds eye view of your character and as you fight hordes of monsters it is awesome watching all the colorful spells being shot around the battlefield. But they also did a good job on the atmosphere too. Walking around and seeing all the different landscapes and monsters roaming around this game will for sure keep you at awe with the blends of color and excitement. But if the graphics still are not what your looking for there are plenty of mods to help make the game look the way you want it to look. From changing the lights or changing the design of your health bar the graphics can be changed to almost everyone's liking.

Controls

The control layout for Torchlight II are decent. Most of it is controlled by the mouse but there are hot keys and shortcuts to open or use things faster. The controls are pretty easy to get down especially sense the mouse is what you use to move and fight. But if you still are having trouble learning the game the tutorial is pretty good and to me it didn't even really feel like a tutorial sense it is evolved around doing quest. I think the controls work really well with the game and had no problem getting them down. The combat controls are easy too besides the mouse once you start leveling and unlocking abilities it is easy to get them synced with a button. The only hard part about the controls is trying to remember all the keys for shortcuts but besides that the controls are easy.

Extras

With all the mods available for this game I do advise you be careful what you download and to scan it first. If you are getting them off Steam then it should be fine but I do know of a friend who tried getting mods off a different site and ended up with a virus. So please be careful what you download. The mods can either make or break this game for you depends on what you like so if it is not quite what you thought or are looking for I would advise to try and tweak with different mods. There is also a free demo to tryout before you decide to purchase it on Steam.
