Synopsis:

Besiege castles and raid villages in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first person slasher with a focus on multiplayer. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. The game is skill-based and controls like an FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional, yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

Story:

It is the medieval times, where kings rule the lands and their army's do all their dirty work. Become a heroic knight and lead your team into battle. Dodge arrows and axes as you run straight at your enemy. Listen to all the metal on metal as your team starts pushing the enemy back into their castle. It is now time to scale the walls and open the gate. We now control the castle it is time to push into the throne room and kill the king. As you slash the enemy king you see the end game results you have take the castle and slain the king you have conquered the land. This is Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.

Gameplay:

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a very unique first person shooter (FPS). Instead of having guns and grenades you are instead given swords, shields, battleaxes, maces, longbows, crossbows, and much more. There are a few different game modes and they are all fun. Probably the best game mode they offer is called team objective. In this game mode you must work as a team to assault a village and castle with the main objective to conquer the land. But there are many smaller objectives to be done first that can be very challenging. For example you might have to burn a market and field before you can assault the castle. But then at the same time the other team is defending the castle and village from the other team. It can and usually is very hard to protect the village sense there is really no defenses there. But the castle can be easy to defend with good team communication. The game itself is pretty graphic when it comes to cutting other players characters apart.

That will give you a idea on how realistic this game is when it comes to the fighting. But that is not all the game has to offer. There are four classes you can choose from in game which all have different weapons, looks, and abilities. For example if you choose a archer then you are a threat from a distance. But up close you are most likely going to get slashed down sense you have the lowest amount of health. But if you are the Knight you are feared by all when you challenge them to a fight. With the knight you also have the highest amount of health and deal a ton of damage but on the down side you are slow and cannot turn to fast with all that shiny armor on. You can change your class at anytime during the game once you die.

This game also offers a ton of customization from colors and different armor for your character to the many different weapons available to use. This game is pretty packed full with customization. The armor is pretty awesome and there is quite a bit of different armor for each character that is obtainable or you can purchase. On the Knight, for example, you can change everything from his helmet to his shield and everything in between. The weapons customization is good too with all the different weapons you can wield. Every battle is not like any other. As you level up you unlock more weapons to wield and use to take down your foes.

The game also has a leveling system which is pretty simple you have your standard xp which is gained just by playing the game. They have level 15 and under lobbies for new players to get use to the game. But you also have another leveling system for your weapons which is all by kills with the first tier weapon. For example you are using your crossbow so lets say the next one is locked and has the number 30 on it. So you need 30 more kills with the crossbow in order to obtain the next tier crossbow. You also unlock armor this way.

Graphics:

The graphics in this game are awesome. It has awesome 3D visuals and amazing models and textures. The atmosphere is what you would expect it to be on a medieval battlefield. Everything flows really nice and I have yet to see any type of clipping or frame rate issues. It does not matter weather you are in the deep woods and surrounded by fog and darkness or if you are in the middle of a open field fighting in the hot heat with the sun reflecting off your armor. The graphics in this game are impressive and are very detailed. If it is from you swinging your sword at a enemy or getting lost in the atmosphere of medieval war, this game brings everything you would expect.

Controls:

The controls for this game are pretty easy to get down. They are almost like any other FPS. I found them easy to learn and easy to get decent at the game. I think the controls fit the game well and do not see anything wrong with them. The game even helps players by showing the control layout in the loading screen before each game. Just in case you forgot how to play or need to learn the controls. Sorry I could not find a layout for the ps3. I will continue to look for it.

Extras:

There is a really cool DLC for this game as well called Deadliest Warrior. It is pretty fun I really enjoy it. There are only a few game modes for it my favorite being last team standing which is usually four teams of six and you only get one life. It is really fun. They also added a ton of new classes for this DLC such as a ninja, spartan, pirate, samurai, viking, and the knight. They all have the same type of customization as previously mentioned.

There is armor you can buy in game and it is pretty over priced I recommend not buying it. It does not increase stats as far as I am aware I believe it is all cosmetic I have never bought any armor.
