Synopsis
In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland.

Gameplay
Banished starts you out with a set of visitors that we can only assume have been Banished from their homelands. The main goal in Banished is to survive and thrive your colony. To do this you must make these villagers work together for their survival. You have the opportunity to assign jobs to each worker. Farms can be plowed and animals can be hunted. There are twenty jobs in the game. Some of them are a blacksmith, a farmer, a builder, a miner, and a teacher. If you don't have enough people for the jobs needed don't fret, the townspeople reproduce often. You have a humongous variety of buildings to choose from. You can build houses, roads, markets, schools, and taverns. All of these contribute to the happiness and survival of your townsfolk.

Graphics
Banished has fantastic graphics. The developers really gave a lot of detail. The artists accomplished the task of making you feel like you are in the game. The environment is full of different animals and plants. The water reflections are fantastic, and the textures of the trees almost look real. Every animation is gorgeous, especially the construction animations. You can see the foundations being built, and it's great to see a small area of grass turn into a house for a family. There are also opportunities to see your village get covered in snow, the water in the streams freeze, and the smoke start billowing out of the tiny homes in your village.

Controls
The controls in Banished are wonderful. You can zoom in to see your farms, and zoom out to see entire areas of the map. Every control feels like it's needed, and you're never wondering why a control is there. The large amount of controls feel like a lot to learn, but they are easy to get the hang of, which makes it easier for newer PC gamers to play. If you don't like where a control is, feel free to bind it to another key. The hotkeys for the menus are efficient, and so are the villager control options. The controls in the game also allow for efficient building, easier farming, and village expansion.
