Gameplay
The gameplay of this game is the same as the other installment of Alan Wake. Fight off Alan's demons with lights, weapons, and flares. You fight against demons made of dark that are hurt by light, pretty simple right? Wrong. You have to weaken them with light from a flash-bang, flashlight, or some other form of light and then finish them off with a rifle/weapon. There is dodging within the game as well as quite an arsenal of weapons to pick and choose from!

Plot
The plot of this standalone game within the Alan Wake series was modeled after an episode from the "Twilight Zone" that is playing on TV screens within the game. Alan's friend and book writing manager Barry is asleep in his hotel room and the narration explains Mr. Scratch (Alan Wake's evil doppelganger) and his plot to take everything away from Alan that he loves, including his wife. So, Alan must complete various tasks within the game ultimately leading up to a final boss fight where Alan must defeat Mr. Scratch to keep himself, his wife, and his friend and manager out of harms way. You play through many scenes in this game; oil refineries, log mill houses, theaters, etc The dark beings are always lurking trying to kill Alan before he can get close enough to Scratch to kill him and be done with all of the darkness and free everyone he loves and cares for, himself included.

Story
The story of this game is great. It is modeled after a TV episode and gameplay is from the other Alan Wake game. Both game's are great but I felt that this game was much more fun and had a better ending and beginning than the first Alan Wake had. It is fun from the beginning and the fun doesn't stop there. This game can be a little scary/creepy at times, but I feel that it just adds to the fun of the game increasing suspense and always keeping you on your toes ready for darkness and enemies alike to strike! The game is fun and there are a lot more tools and weapons within this game compared to the last one which makes for a better game in my own mind. This game can be played without any knowledge of the first game because the narrator within this game gives back-story so new players can understand somewhat.

Graphics
The graphics in this game are that of a downloadable game, which this is. They aren't bad or anything, but they also aren't as great as they could be. Sometimes the game gets too dark and the player is left in a dark corner unable to fight back because they can't even see. The enemies sometimes blend in too heavily with their surroundings as well and then like 5 or 6 attack you all at once and kill you because you didn't even have time to draw your flashlight and weapon. Other than those small problems that happen every once and a while, I think this game makes for a great game and the graphics within the game aren't too awful bad.

Controls
The controls to this game are great. They all flow very well and makes for shooting and dodging controls to be very active with each other. The buttons for aiming, dodging, and firing at your enemies are great and all go together in a way that seems almost seamless. There are multiple controller layouts should the default not be into your liking and there are even map-able buttons if you have one or two buttons that irks you!

Ratings
Gameplay - 8.5/10
Plot - 9/10
Story - 8.5/10
Controls - 8/10
Graphics - 7.5/10
Overall - 9/10

Personal Note: This game is great. I loved the first Alan Wake game even though my friends all thought that it was a dumb game and didn't like the idea of having to use a flashlight as a somewhat weapon. However, I thought that the game was brilliant and made for a great story line as well as a great gaming experience!
