Synopsis
It's been two years since Jackie Estacado used The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend's murder. He's been unable to shake the memory of Jenny's death since bottling up his supernatural power and now The Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie's life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war and opens the door for The Darkness to reemerge. The botched attempt sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of The Darkness itself.

Gameplay
The Darkness II plays similar to the other installment of the series, but with the introduction of new features such as "quad wielding" and "creeping dark!" Quad Wielding is achieved by Jackie commanding the "Darkness" to hold and operate another 2 firearms. The Creeping Dark is used as a long range melee if you will, Jackie commands the "Darkness" to hit, slash, and rip enemies apart.

Plot
In the years since the events of the first game Jackie has become the Don (the boss) of the Franchetti crime family. Even though Jackie still has the Darkness, he has learned how to suppress it unless HE wants to use it, not the Darkness wanting to be use him. Jackie and his gang are attacked at a restaurant by a rival gang, Jackie ends up getting his leg messed up pretty bad in which the Darkness calls to him to embrace it and let it take control in which Jackie refuses. Jackie is later hit by an explosion and bleeding out in which the Darkness again asks to embrace, this time he says yes and the Darkness springs to life killing the attackers and healing Jackie in the process. The main plot of this game is the Darkness manipulating Jackie into killing with the use of images of his dead girlfriend created by the Darkness that aren't really there. Jackie later figures this out and has an inner battle with himself and the Darkness.

Story
The story to this game follows the first game, but doesn't really tie anything into the new game other than the fact of his girlfriend being referenced and the Darkness still being inside of Jackie. The game makes for a somewhat creepy/scary FPS with an amazing storyline. You feel almost as if the Darkness is helping you kill your enemies that need to be killed at the beginning only later figuring out that the Darkness was only making you kill because it benefits it when you do, which later leads to a battle within yourself against the Darkness. It is a very gruesome and bloody game, so if you have a light tolerance to that sort of thing I would recommend straying away from this game and the first. There is actually not that much cursing and or jump scares. A great game overall, but well deserved it's rating of M.

Graphics
The graphics to this game are outstanding. You feel like you are placed in an urban area that is highly detailed and looks great. Shadows aren't too dark, lights aren't too bright, and the characters/enemies look amazing! The buildings and weapons are all textured nicely, and there really isn't anything to complain about within the graphical portion of this game.

Controls
The controls to this game share the same aspect of that of any other FPS. The controls aren't anything to write home about, but also nothing to write complaints about. The game's controls are very easy to learn and work well with the game. No complaints here.

Multiplayer
The co-op to this game is quite fun and makes for a really fun buddy with buddy experience! However, in my personal opinion it takes away from the scary lone wolf feel of the solo campaign and lessens the story structure because they don't really explain about your partner. That being said, the game is still great, and still fun with a friend! I just feel that it is a little better to experience it alone as the lone wolf that Jackie is.

Ratings
Gameplay - 8.5/10

Multiplayer - 7.5/10

Overall - 9/10

Personal Note: This game is awesome. The first game almost seemed lacking compared to this one. They added quite a few new features in this game and this game feels new even though it somewhat picks up where the other game left off. The ending to this game will leave you stunned and is sure to make you a loyal fan of this game once you have finished the game. Great game, and well worth a purchase, that is if blood and gore isn't a deal breaker to you! Because, this game is packed full of it!
