Synopsis
This time around, Ratchet and Clank are on a mission trying to locate several famous heroes who have mysteriously disappeared. The good news is the duo located the missing people. The bad news is they find them after getting captured by the same person who has been going around stealing heroes. It turns out that a crazed media mogul named Gleeman Vox has been gathering heroes to act as contestants on his ultra-violent combat reality show, "DreadZone." Vox soon realizes that Ratchet has champion potential, so he forces the furry little guy into battle. Now, encased in a suit of armor and sporting an explosive collar to keep him in line, Ratchet has to compete in the game and go up against the deadly Exterminators (a team of warriors lead by a man called Ace Hardlight) in order to save himself and his friends.

Gameplay
In this game you play as Ratchet. What makes this Ratchet game different from others is that it is the first one to have you separate from your partner, Clank. Not to say he isn't in the game, he just isn't on your back. Having Clank separate from you also removes almost all of the puzzle/platforming because instead of using Clank to get over/around something, you must fight straight through waves of enemies in a battle arena for a reality TV show that takes place in space. This game has a LOT of shooting, action, and humor! It is also the first Ratchet game to include a changeable difficulty level and the a cooperative story mode. Since you don't have Clank to help you fight and level the fields so to speak, they give you two "combat bots" to help you along your journey. The bots, as well as vehicles, armor, and weapons can be upgraded and customized throughout this game.

Plot
Following the last game: Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Ratchet, Clank, and AL have been left in charge of running the Starship Phoenix. After the three have figured out that many of their friends and hero's have been reported missing, robots storm their ship and take all three as prisoners for their reality TV show. They are then transported to the "Shadow Sector" where no law exists. This is also where Ratchet has the "pleasure" of meeting the reality show creator, Gleeman Vox. Vox actually asks Ratchet to be the head of the Exterminators, the enemy force that he will be later fighting. He refuses, so Vox makes him and his friends wear a "Deadlocked" collar that wiill blow up if they try to remove it and so they complete against the Exterminators for a TV show.

Story
The story line of this game is very interesting and while still being close to other Ratchet games, it is different and in a good way! If you are a fan of other Ratchet games, you will love this one too, with the exception of missing Clank hanging around on your back. There is a lot of customization, action, and humor. Every Ratchet game has a lot of humor in it, but I feel that this one is a little darker, so they use humor a little more to keep Ratchet's moral up and what not. There are only 10 guns in this game, which is a lot less than other Ratchet games, but he was kidnapped before he could get all his gear together, and even though there are only 10 guns within this game, there is just as much if not more customization for your weapons, bots, and vehicles.

Graphics
The graphics for this game were quite impressive for it's 2005 release. Everything within the game from a graphical standpoint looks as if it should be there. For example, they are on a space ship, made for fighting within it. So, that being said, there is metal everywhere, weapons hanging on the walls, and when you can look outside through a space ship window/port you can see the darkness that is space along with the ships thrusters and what not. The character graphics aren't as good as they could have been, and the character's voice don't sync as well as they could have in my own opinion. All said and done, the graphics were still impressive for it's time.

Controls
The controls for this game are very easy to get used to and play with. Especially, if you are a Ratchet and Clank series fan. They use the same controls as most shooters, so it is an easy learn. There are a few controls that are a little clunky, but for the most part they flow smoothly with one another. Quickly switching weapons in combat is quite fluid, as well as vehicle driving controls.

Personal Note: This game is great, along with all the other games within this series. Also, this game got me started into serious gaming, and has always/still is one of my most favorite games to date. I have a lot devoted to these games, and not just time. They will speak to you.
