Synopsis:
Red Dead Revolver is a western third-person shooter video game developed by Rockstar San Diego, published by Rockstar Games and distributed by Take-Two Interactive for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. It is the first game in the Red Dead series.
Originally developed by Capcom, borrowing elements from their 1985 title Gun.Smoke, the project was dropped in 2002. Rockstar Games purchased the game and expanded on it. Changing the style from Weird West to a Spaghetti Western allowed the developers to add more violence and over-the-top characters. The game reproduces a "grainy film" effect and uses music from various Spaghetti Western films.
Gameplay:
For those who love Wild Western era themed games then you will love this, it is similar to Red Dead Redemption (The 2nd game of the Series). This game takes place in the 1880s Wild West when Nate Harlow and his partner Griff found gold in an area called Bear Mountain. To celebrate their find they create 2 iron cast revolvers with distinct scorpion engraved into them, Nate (Red) and his partner Griff take one each. Red grows up, becomes a skilled shooter and bounty hunter, and returns to seek vengeance on his family's killers. He has scars across his face and barely speaks. Red learns how to ride, mount and dismount a horse, and wield an arsenal of weapons from pistols and shotguns to rifles and dynamite. In the game as a whole there are 30 different weapons to choose from. The lead character appears to be an amalgamation of various Western Clint Eastwood-inspired characters. This game allows the purchase of goods at local town stores. Goods range from general store items, which unlock extras, to guns and multiplayer characters. Similar to Red Dead Redemption. Each individual character has a unique ability which can be activated after so many kills or a certain amount of time. For example, Jack Swift can quickly empty his guns on a single target, if you haven't played this game it this ability is similar to Dead Eye in Red Dead Redemtion although each character has it's very own. Guns can be purchased at stores and you get to choose which weapons you want to wield in each mission. The game offers a wide selection of shotguns, rifles, thrown weapons, and, of course, revolvers. Weapon repair plays a minor role. In total there is a selection of 50 weapons. The game is free roam and there are lots of different places to explore.Graphics:
For a game that came out 10 years ago you can't really give it much hate, the game was a big step at that time considering the 3D aspect but the detail is shabby and the color is awfully dull through out some parts of the game and the graphics are fairly low. The graphics are undeveloped. This game is much closer to a cartoonish look than a realistic texture. There's not really any detail in objects or surrounding such as trees or building. Some characters in the game looked blocked and were unusually shaped, for example their bodies could be more similar to squares other than round and realistic. The game has it's fair do of glitches at times. The natural environment in the game is satisfying as it fulfills the Wild Western theme. The landscape and objects in the game are similar to the other game in the series Red Dead Redemption. This game is far from perfect as it delivers slow movement and rusty, dull visuals. These dirty graphics don't really affect the gameplay if you like to play a game for the story and not just graphics. The HUD is clear and visible at the bottom left of the screen and your money counter is also visible at the top right of the screen. Although this game has it's faults and provides it's gimmicks to making it an all round enjoyable game.

Characters from Red Dead Revolver made an appearance in the Red Dead Redemption Legends and Killers DLC.
The characters are playables in online multiplayer.

Controls:
Like all shooter games the controls are very straightforward and simple to use. If you aren't used to shooter games then don't worry as it if fairly easy to adjust to. It is a Third-person shooting game so the accuracy side can be difficult. The controls are very similar with Red Dead Redemption controls, so if you already know them then you will be playing this game in a jiffy. These are the controls (Xbox example), very similar to Red Dead Redemtion, LS to move character, RS to move camera and targeting, A to jump, accept, B to punch, X to grab and strike enemy, cover, interact, Y to reload weapon, White button to switch weapons, Black button to zoom in or out, Left trigger to draw weapon, Right trigger to fire weapon, fire in a duel, kick, Press RS to use Dead Eye (your special ability), Press LS to crouch or duck, Left trigger + B to melee attack and the start button to pause the game and view map. If you noticed these controls are extremely similar to most 3rd person shooting games making it very easy to learn the ropes. If you are new the controls are plain sailing and comes natural to you throughout the game.
Rating:
Synopsis: 9/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Graphics: 4/10
Controls: 9/10
Overall: 9/10
If you are a fan of Wild Western games then I highly recommend this game as it an extremely fun Third-person 3D Shooter.
