Info
Title: Thief
Genre: Action, Adventure
Developer: Eidos-Montral
Publisher: SQUARE ENIX, Eidos Interactive
Release date: 25th-28th February 2014

Synopsis
Garrett, the Master Thief, steps out of the shadows into the City. In this treacherous place, where the Barons Watch spreads a rising tide of fear and oppression, his skills are the only things he can trust. Even the most cautious citizens and their best-guarded possessions are not safe from his reach. As an uprising emerges, Garrett finds himself entangled in growing layers of conflict. Lead by Orion, the voice of the people, the tyrannized citizens will do everything they can to claim back the City from the Barons grasp. The revolution is inevitable. If Garrett doesnt get involved, the streets will run red with blood and the City will tear itself apart. Garrett never paid the price for anything until now.

Gameplay
Ever since i saw the trailer for this game around 6 months ago, I have been wanting to play it. It looked like it had a sort of Assassins Creed look and feel about it with the dodging guards and getting yourself out of a sticky situation, and it is exactly what it feels like for real. The game is very very smooth to play with an overall brilliant storyline (I haven't finished it yet) but so far it has been brilliant. The player controls a guy called Garrett, a master thief, he intends to steal from the rich people. You must proceed through the game using stealth and spacial awareness as there could be guards just around the corner. That is one thing i did pick up on very quickly when playing this game, the guards are very blind, you could be creeping through water about 15 meters away under a flame, but they still wouldn't see you. This isn't a bad thing, it just makes the game a little unrealistic and a bit easy for gamers who like the stealth to be perfect. This game includes something called Focus Mode, which is where you can provide several different advantages including Vision, highlighting climbable objects or candles that can be put out to make your surroundings darker and making it easier for you to maneuver around. Garrett carries a Blackjack, which is used to knock guards unconscious, along with a collapsible bow which can be used for lethal or non-lethal purposes. Later on in the story, you equip a claw, which is helpful in climbing and jumping higher. Player can use money they collected throughout the game for supplies and equipment at the end of missions.

Graphics
The graphics are really what make this game shine through, it uses the UnRealEngine 3 which is a engine used by many games these days and I can see why. The amount of detail this engine can produce is mind blowing. Now I'm talking from a PC perspective which is always going to be slightly smoother over console versions, but I can't image it would be that much different in the real world. But the amount of detail in the terrain is mind blowing along with all the structures of the buildings. What happens in the background of the game doesn't seem that important when you say it, but when you witness it being at it's best, it really helps the game shine through from the rest. The models used for the player is phenomenal. Truly ground breaking, on some of the cut-scenes I honestly forgot it was a game and not a film. I was playing this on a relatively high graphical setting and the AA (Anti-Aliasing) when maxed out made all the renders even more perfect from what they were.

Controls
The controls are brilliantly laid out in Thief, at first i really couldn't get used to them as the buttons were all over the place, but once you unlock more and more weapons and equipment, all of it started to make perfect sense. The layout reminds me a little bit of the Assassins Creed Black Flags as once you start unlocking new things, they all that adding up, I like this due to it makes it feel like a new game, sticking with the same old buttons are good in a way, but if the games doesn't live up to expectations, it ruins it. I didn't really have to change anything apart from the sensitivity a couple of time, but that is personal preference. But as far as the layout of the keyboard goes, all was perfect. The stealth in this game is very easy to controls, it's the standard layout for the movement only, which is known by everyone who plays PC on a regular basis. C is used to crouch to make the player have quieter footsteps, but CTRL controls the stealth mode which slows you right down, but makes you absolutely soundless.

Ratings
Gameplay - 9/10
Graphics - 9/10
Controls - 8/10
Overall - 9/10
Thief is an absolute brilliant game for the person who like the slower paced games, using stealth mode does make the missions quite lengthy but it makes you feel better when it's done the proper way. Buy it!

I recently just started playing the game, and I fell instantly in love with it. Although the graphics aren't the best on the 360, the plot is just magnificent. It's a mixture of Assassin's Creed and Elder Scrolls, both of which are great games.

Thief has to be a 10/10, and by far one of the best games of the year so far!
