Synopsis
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon continues the trend of Ace Combat games set in the real Earth rather than on "Strangereal", the setting for most Ace Combat games. The game takes place over a number of locations, including: Miami, East Africa, Dubai and the Middle East, Russia (Derbent, the Black Sea, Caucasus, and Moscow specifically), and Washington, D.C. Fictional towns and cities were also used, including Mogadiyu, Carruth, and Belyi Base (believed to be based on Belaya). The developers used satellite imagery to accurately render the real-life locations, making it possible for players to pick out actual buildings and locations while playing the game. Miami, East Africa, Dubai, Moscow, and Washington, D.C. are available in multiple multiplayer modes alongside Paris. Honolulu and Tokyo were added as downloadable maps.

Gameplay
Ace Combat has always been one of my favorite gaming series and when I heard of the release of Assault Horizon, i went nuts. I couldn't wait. I was a bit nervous when playing it to start with as I didn't want to be disappointed but they did one hell of a job with this game. The story line is very long and very strong, I loved it. With the amount of different airborne vehicles within this was epic and totally unexpected. I've never played a game that involved flying Jets, Helicopters and a AC-130 gunship. So when I found out this was the game that did that, I was very impressed. Now I will always stand by this that my favorite Ace Combat game was number six Fires of Liberation, but this keeps right up there with it, it's a truly astounding game that everyone should play and complete at least once. Ace Combat has always really been pointed toward every age group with the levels of difficulty within the games. Easy is really for players that have never gamed before with medium and hard for the more experienced players.

Graphics
The graphics in this game are brilliant, now as you probably know, I've played a lot of simulator styled games before that have really impressive graphics, but this is right up there with the best. The cities detail is second to none even when you're hundreds of miles away you can still make out that it is a big city and can usually tell which one as the layout of the cities are remarkable. All the landmarks have very high detail to, so that each city stands out from the rest. The plane models used are really astounding, and that was my main worry with this game, as in previous Ace Combat games, they went a bit over the top on the models which ended up looking a bit fake. But they have done wonders with this.

Controls
I'm speaking from the PC perspective as usual, but i have played this with a mouse and keyboard and also with the Xbox 360 controller. It took a bit of setting up for the mouse and keyboard as the default layout made no sense to me as you literally needed 3 hands and since i don't have that, i needed to change them. But once i did get them to my specification it was a dream to use, the planes reacted lightning fast with smooth transitions. Playing with the Xbox 360 controller was easy as pie, this is because they have used the same button mapping as the Xbox 360 version for the console. So I stuck to using that. But if you don want to use a mouse and keyboard, it's easy enough to do and setup.
