Synopsis

Black Ops II is said to be the "most anticipated game of 2012," along with Halo 4. In the story mode, you fight against a man called Menendez. He and his army will stop at nothing to take over. It all starts in Los Angeles where Menendez is destroying the city - all when the President's Marine One helicopter is shot down. From there, he is captured and then asked questions on board a ship in he ocean. He once again escapes and then is hunted. As I do not want to spoil the entire campaign, I will only tell you that you can choose to take different options as to how you approach something in the story line (i.e. killing somebody - you can choose to let him/her live or die.) Whatever you choose to do will dictate what happens in the end. And the cool thing, you can go back and change your decision once you complete the mission. Just as any other Call of Duty game, you see flashbacks in previous games. So for Black Ops II, you see a few flashbacks from the first Black Ops. You are on the hunt for Menendez to end his run. Black Ops II has a very clear story line. The very end of the credits is also cool.

Treyarch Synopsis: Pushing the boundaries of what fans have come to expect from the record-setting entertainment franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare.

Synopsis Rating: 9

Gameplay

Since the game is set in the future (2025) there is a vast new variety of weapons and equipment. Some of which allow you to cling to walls without any rope, shoot though just about any wall with a sniper, see people with invisible camo, and more! I feel that the increased technology has just made the game that much better. This game is kind of like a combination between Halo and Call of Duty - except without the aliens involved. The amount of new gadgets in this game and what they do is just outstanding.

Gameplay Rating: 10

Graphics

The graphics in BO2 are a huge step up from the previous Black Ops game. It's more detailed and things appear more clear. Even with a sniper, they made it more detailed (when using a thermal scope, it's so fuzzy but you can see an outline of the person perfectly fine.) These graphics are probably better than Modern Warfare 3's graphics.

Graphics Rating: 9.5

Online Multiplayer

Nobody likes to be level 1 and have to use a preset class. But unfortunately, that comes with a new Call of Duty game. The guns at the beginning are not the best, but of course they will get the job done if be needed. There are many new guns, but there are also some that make a return from the original Black Ops. There are also tons of new killstreaks, that can really help you and your team out. These killstreaks kill many of people at once, let's just say that. Of course, not too many people do very good at the beginning of new games because of the guns, but once ranking up, there's tons better guns. Gun shot sounds sound more realistic as well - same goes for campaign and ZOMBIES!!! The only thing that may upset some people would be the hit marker detection and some weapons strength. Sometimes I'll shoot at somebody and I don't get hitmarkers, then end up dying. So for that, I rate it so low.

Online Multiplayer Rating: 3.5

Zombies

Who doesn't love a game of zombies? I'm sure that's what was going through Treyarch's mind when thinking about this game. In BO2, you take a bus around to different zombie maps. I think it's a pretty cool concept - it's a change to the already popular zombies mode. And if you ordered the Hardened Edition, you also received the Nuketown Zombies Map. I think zombies mode is the best thing in this game over campaign and online multiplayer. New twists to old things is a great idea and it worked great for BO2. Some people may not like change, but this change is a change for the better.

Zombies Rating: 10

Controls

The controls are as any other Call of Duty game. They are easy to use and can get used to them very quickly.

Controls Rating: 10

Overall Rating: 8.6/10

Release Date: November 13, 2012
Developer: Treyarch
Publisher: Activision
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 & Wii U
Genre: First-person shooter

Synopsis

A continuation of the previous Treyarch game, Call of Duty: Black Ops. Play in the past and the present including, recounting events from 1980 and following the present characters in 2025. Play as Alex Mason in 1980 as you fight in a proxy war in Angola while his son, David Mason is fighting with "The People's Republic of China" in "The Second Cold War". A high action, futuristic and fairly new take on the Call of Duty series as you play in locations like, Los Angeles, Afghanistan, Panama, Singapore and more.

Gameplay

Treyarch has finally changed Call of Duty, or at least the campaign portion. They have driven away from the linear style we have seen in the past and they have taken a new, non-linear approach to the series. No more back to back missions but now there is a sandbox approach. This time you control the outcomes and allows for a more open ended experience relying on your decisions in the game. There are moments in the game where the player will be given the control of the way the game goes and it isn't a "simple" decision. Unlike previous Call of Duty's if you get a certain character killed that will not result in a "Mission Failed" but it will rather change the course in which the game is going towards. The decisions will change every aspect of the story including the villain's plans/decisions. This means not everyone will see the same ending once the "Cold War" is finished.

Plot

You will play in 2 years, 1980 & 2025 as the father and son. Alex Mason will be the main character of the 1980 portion as you control David Mason, son of Alex Mason during the 2025 time period. Fight in the Proxy War as Alex and the Second Cold War as David in different environments and locations. For more on the plot, here is a Wikipedia Article * SPOILER ALERT*:

In the year 2025, a Special Forces unit led by David Mason arrive at "The Vault", a secret location that is home to the aged Frank Woods, who they believe has information on the whereabouts of Raul Menendez. Woods admits that Menendez had visited him, and gives Mason a locket that Menendez had left behind.
In 1986, Alex Mason has retired from active duty and is living in Alaska with the seven year-old David. Their already-strained relationship is put to the test when Mason is approached by Jason Hudson, seeking to recruit him for a mission in Angola. Woods' unit has been taken captive while aiding rebels in the country's civil war, and their actions have been disavowed by the CIA. Hudson enlists Mason for a covert mission to rescue Woods and any survivors from his unit, with the help of the Jonas Savimbi, the leader of the Angolan forces. They discover Menendez is responsible for Woods' captivity and attempt to confront him, only for Menendez to give away their position to incoming enemy forces, allowing him to flee.
In light of the events in Angola, Mason and Hudson begin tracking Menendez, who has set himself up as one of the primary arms suppliers for conflicts in Africa and Latin America. Locating him in Afghanistan, the CIA authorises a strike against him. At this point, the story begins to explore Menendez's motivations and his vendetta against the West. After he and his sister were accidentally burned in the fire-bombing of a warehouse as part of an insurance scam, the Menendez family turned to drug trafficking and built up power and influence throughout Nicaragua. Their actions did not go unnoticed, and the CIA sanctioned the assassination of his father. Now knowing that Menendez considers the conflict to be personal and that he will not back down, the CIA lean on Panamanian president Manuel Noriega to support a raid on Menendez's home in Panama. Menendez suffers further tragedy when Woods inadvertently kills his sister during the raid.
Menendez plans to retaliate against those he holds responsible for his sister's death. During the 1989 invasion of Panama, he kidnaps Jason Hudson, using him as bait for a trap. He then uses Hudson to mislead Woods, manipulating him into shooting Mason instead of himself. Menendez then executes Hudson and cripples Woods. Unsatisfied with his revenge, Menendez allows Woods to live, promising to return to complete his revenge when the time is right.
Three decades later, Menendez re-emerges as the leader of Cordis Die. He stages a cyberattack that cripples the Chinese Stock Exchange; in response, the Chinese ban the export of rare earth elements, fermenting the start of a new Cold War between the Chinese-led Strategic Defense Coalition and the U.S.-led JSOC. Taking advantage of this stand-off, Menendez attempts to bring the two powers to a full-blown war by inciting conflicts between the two. Using the intelligence provided by Woods, David Mason, now a Navy SEAL code-named Section, leads JSOC forces in the renewed search for Menendez as he takes control of America's automated military systems and turns them against their former commanders.
Shortly after gathering intelligence from Woods, Section and JSOC infiltrates Myanmar investigating a spike in activity in the region. There, Section's team encounters a computer engineer under Menendez's employment, warning them of a cyberattack with a Celerium device, a device capable of hacking through the global infrastructure. Section's team is later deployed in Pakistan, attempting to gather intelligence on Menendez's plots. During the infiltration, Menendez discloses the name of a target, "Karma" in the Cayman Islands. Section and SEAL operatives Harper and Salazar later infiltrate the Cayman Islands, finding out that "Karma" is a woman named Chloe Lynch, a former employee of Menendez's shell corporation, Tacitus. Lynch was the main developer of the Celerium device, and as a means of wrapping up loose ends, Menendez had deployed mercenaries for her abduction.
JSOC later has a lead on Menendez in Yemen, where JSOC asset Farid infiltrates Menendez's cell to help Section facilitate the leader's capture. However, Menendez's capture was a ruse for Menendez to hack into the U.S. military's computer infrastructure on-board the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Obama. Salazar is revealed to be Menendez's mole within JSOC, and facilitates Menendez's attack before Section and JSOC forces repel the attack. The aftermath relocates Section to Los Angeles, where he escorts the President of the United States to safety amidst the drone attacks.
JSOC eventually finds the source of the transmissions responsible for the hacking to Haiti, where Section leads JSOC forces into recapturing the facility, and apprehending or killing Menendez.
Depending on the actions taken by the player, the final outcome of the game's ending is influenced, such as whether or not the United States and China are able to enter an alliance with each other, as well as determining the fates of certain individuals in the game.
Best outcome:
Section apprehends Menendez and takes him into custody. In the aftermath, the player must have finished all of the Strike Force Missions, securing an alliance between the United States and China effectively ending the Second Cold War. If Farid maintained his cover in Yemen by shooting Harper, Farid sacrifices himself to save Lynch from execution by Salazar or Menendez's second-in-command DeFalco. Lynch's survival ensures a successful halt of Menendez's global cyberattack, as well as preventing Menendez's escape attempts from his assigned prison. If Woods did not shoot Alex Mason in the head in Panama, it is revealed that Mason survived his gunshot wound, and manages to have a family reunion with Section.

Graphics

One of the most key things in a game, Graphics. This is defiantly a personal preference thing. I am personally a old school guy and can accept some decent graphics for any game. I personally loved the graphics. They were a huge step up from Black Ops and mad the game a whole lot more fun to play. Although the multiplayer is the most played game mode, I felt like campaign and especially zombies had amazing graphics. I felt like Zombies was a huge step up graphics wise from Black Ops and overall the game had not the best, but some of the best graphics.

Multiplayer

The multiplayer portion of Black Ops II takes place in the near future setting of 2025. They are pulling and re-examining the multiplayer features, such as create-a-class and killstreaks. Black Ops 2 introduced a ton of new features which also included the 10 Point System. Players are given 10 points to use on weapons, attachments, and perks, each costing 1 point. Black Ops II will have 55 levels and 10 Prestiges. Players receive an unlock token for every level, and will have 4 once they reach level 4, which also unlocks Create-A-Class. The unlock token can be used to unlock new weapons, perks, equipment, and Scorestreaks in Create-A-Class. For a more detailed multiplayer analysis, here is a Wikia Article on Multiplayer:

When the player enters Prestige Mode, they receive an unlock token which can be used to unlock any item, gain another custom class slot, reset their stats, or refund their unlock tokens. When the player completes Level 55, Prestige 10, they are awarded the title of Prestige Master and unlock all items.

Challenges return to reward players with XP to level up faster and unlock cosmetic content, such as camouflage patterns, which can now also be applied to secondary weapons, including launchers and the Assault Shield. The player will first unlock basic camo patterns, then advanced challenges become available to unlock special camo. Challenges will also unlock reticules for the different sight attachments. Challenges do not reset after prestiging.

Black Ops 2 introduces a new game mode, Hardpoint. Players rush to the same place on the map and try to hold it for as long as possible until it moves.[7] Kill Confirmed returns from Modern Warfare 3, with the scoring system changed to push players to play the objective.[8]
Wager Matches from the original Black Ops return, now known as Party Games. Due to the removal of CODPoints, players now earn XP in this gametype.[9]

Combat Training from the original Black Ops also returns. In the original Black Ops, Combat Training was separate from a player's multiplayer profile. In Black Ops II, Combat Training is integrated with the player's public multiplayer profile. Players can play three different Combat Training gametypes. On Bootcamp, a team of players and bots face each other for full XP gain for the first 10 levels. Players can then play the Objective gametype, where a team of players and bots play objective modes, but receive half XP. Bot Stomp has players play against a team of bots without gaining XP.[10]

All playlists will be available from the start at Level 1, instead of being level-gated.

Conclusion

Black Ops 2 takes a whole new approach from the previous Call of Duty's. This game is defiantly one that will change the way Call of Duty is played and is viewed by Hardcore Gamers and "N00B5". Although it isn't the best game out there, this is one of the best Call of Duty games created and quite possibly the best game made by Treyarch. This is a worth buying game for beginners and the most hardcore of gamers.

This CoD has restored my faith in the series after the disappointment that was MW3. I have always felt Treyarch has done a fantastic job with CoD.

Scorestreaks are great, maps are really good with exception of 2, guns feel balanced, create a class has been updated and feels nice.

Overall I will say 8.5/10

Yes I do like this game but the campaign was a dissapointment to me. I wanted to know what REALLY happened, not some Mass Effect type choose your own way campaign. Only Bioware and Beshesda make good games like that. The multiplayer is solid and that's what I like.

This synopsis generalizes what the Campaign is about. The Multiplayer doesn't seem too far into the future. In fact, the gameplay still has that old fashioned Treyarch feel while having a few new gadgets that make it seem futuristic.

Story(Rating: 8/10)

I've never been a huge fan of Call of Duty campaigns. The story never seems to interest me. After a few hours I find myself walking away during cut scenes. However, this campaign has to be one of the best in the Call of Duty series.

I couldn't say too much about the story itself, as I'm not even entirely finished the campaign. But the idea of completing missions in the past and present is a very good idea.
Woods narrates your missions and explains events that occurred which made Black Ops 2 even possible.

Some new features have been added. You can now customize your class before each mission, which in a sense could add more play ability to the campaign. There is also a set of missions that are available now that has you able to control a small group of soldiers from an aerial view to defend a location from attacks. While this seems like a great idea, personally it really didn't add much to the gameplay itself.

I found myself more aggravated then entertained during those missions because I could only control a group size that they allowed me to. The controls seemed incredibly rushed and made me stop to think about what the tutorial told me. Honestly, I can see the appeal it could have but I'm a Starcraft player, the whole RTS (Real time Strategy) addition to a Call of Duty game didn't seem to work incredibly well.

Overall explanation:

There wasn't really much of an appeal to me so far. The gameplay has been better then previous Call of Duty games. While the features were pretty amazing, the story itself failed to get me involved which caused me to feel like something was missing.

Overall Gameplay(8.5/10):

The gameplay of Black Ops 2 feels like every other Call of Duty but with a twist. Honestly, the only thing significantly new is the Pick 10 System. For those of you who don't know, the Pick 10 System gives you up to 10 "tokens" to use towards items to put on your class. The great part about this is it adds more of variety to classes you can make. However, it is essentially the same thing as before because a wildcard with another attachment or perk costs two total points.
Example:
MSMC with a silencer and EOTech (3 points)
Flak Jacket (1 point)
Cold Blooded (1 point)
Dead Silence (1 point)
B32R (1 point)
C4 (1 point)
Concussion ( 1 point)

This example class leaves you with 1 point left, you have a choice now. You can leave it like this, add an extra Concussion or remove something and add a wildcard. If you wanted to add a second first perk, you would first need to remove one extra point to buy the Wildcard and then your perk. While this may not seem like a huge deal, this could completely break your class if done wrong.

Multiplayer(9/10):

Since the campaign has already been discussed, I'll move onto the Multiplayer gameplay. Multiplayer seems like there was more time put into it then before. Guns seem incredibly balanced compared to previous series. However, Assault Rifles are clearly at a disadvantage in this title. The maps are incredibly close quartered which causes Sub machine Guns to be at a larger advantage.

Either way, most of the guns are equal. Like every other previous title there are certain guns and combinations that are completely over powered. Example is the PDW with the laser. This seems to be the favorite class of campers. This takes away the need to aim in maximizing the chance they have to stay alive especially with the PDW. The way guns seem to have been balanced is that each gun has a downside. The shotguns are mostly pump action which requires more time between shots, assault rifles are horrible in close range and the sub machine guns will lose at a far range compared to their assault rifle counterparts.

While the gameplay seems more balanced, the spawn system in certain gametypes is broken. Certain playlists are unable to be played alone or even in parties. I completely gave up on Demolition because I would join a game and get spawn killed by a shotgun almost instantly.

Zombies(9.5/10):

Personally, Zombies is by far my favorite in this game. With the introduction of Tranzit and Grief, the Zombies feels entirely redone. I was never a fan of Zombies in the previous installments but this time I find myself frequently getting sick of multiplayer and going into a Zombies match. There isn't a lot to say about Zombies in my opinion.

Graphics(7/10):

Honestly, the fact that the developers of Call of Duty admit that they haven't updated the engine used to make this game is horrible. The excuse used is that they update the lighting every so often. The graphics in my opinion is poor, they are hardly updated between each of the titles.

I honestly can understand why this is true, new Call of duty games come out so often that it wouldn't make sense to come out with extremely updated graphics each time. Eventually the engine would become completely useless and the graphics wouldn't be able to be updated much. This would be a bad business move as people would probably stop playing the game once the graphics felt exactly the same.

So the small amount of updates make sense. It's just saddening that the companies are that greedy. Otherwise, small upgrades exist and make Call of Duty look just enough better then the previous installments.

Overall:

While the game is a welcome addition to the Call of Duty franchise, it doesn't seem as new as it could. The lack of innovations in the game leave me wondering if I should have purchased Halo 4. The game still feels broken like every other Call of Duty at release. Should you purchase Black Ops 2? I couldn't give you a really good reason to purchase this game or even not to. I'm satisfied with my decision.

See, there's where I disagree. I feel as if this game is more animated with it's graphics.
