Synopsis

Toy Story 3: The Video Game is a platform video game loosely based on the film Toy Story 3. The game was released in North America on June 15, 2010 for the Nintendo DS, Wii, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and the Xbox 360. A special PlayStation 2 bundle with Toy Story 3: The Video Game was released on October 31, 2010, followed by the game's individual release on November 2, 2010.

Setting

The setting for Toy Story 3 was one of my favorite settings. As it held some pretty cool enviorments and places you can go. And Toy story 1 & 2 were my favorite growing up. Not to mention it was a 3D platformer and at certain stages of the game a large amount of world that you can explore. Also the drastic changes in scenery were good. Going from the wild west to sneaking around a daycare centre and even saving children on a moving train heading towards certain death. The game had alot going for it. Overall i would say the setting was fantastic.

Setting Rating:8.2/10

Gameplay

The gamplay for toy story 3 was pretty neat, there was alot you could do in this game, going from races to fighting. First off the playable characters. Woody, being the cowboy toy in the game his special move is the ability to use his string connected to his back, to use as a lasso and swing from areas the game requires you too. Buzz, Being the spaceman from the future he can pick up other characters and throw them to higher platforms that they cant get to, this i thought was actually pretty cool and dead fun to use. He can also do a ability of his own in the 'Imagination' levels such as using his laser to shoot enemies and crystals. Jessie being the cowgirl in the game can balance on slim platforms and light platforms, being the lightest in the group. Zurg, the arch nemesis to Buzz, he was only on the PS3 version of the game as a completely new campaign in a way. He comes with his own set of mission, all mostly to do with destroying buzz lightyear, or freeroaming in his massive car with a trigun on the top of it, which he uses to blast enemies away, the choice is yours. Each character(except Zurg) can also ram through enemies and throw balls at them aswell. There were a few different ways of transport, usually either by foot, in a toy car, jet packing, and riding a horse, this was pretty fun to do, especially doing tricks and jumps in a car or going full speed down canyons on the back of a horse. There are 2 modes in the game. The story and Toybox. The story is just the basic campaign, this consists of 9 levels and follows the basic outline of the movie, but includes some twists and parts that were not in the film, just for the pure fun of the game. It also starts the game with the level from the opening cutscene of the Toy Story 2 film. Toybox is a pretty great gamemode. This is where you just start from scratch and you can create and customize in detail levels that you want, you can add your own scenery and toys within it, there are also characters and scenery that are from other films branded by Disney, Also when you do tasks in your world you are rewarded with money. This can be used to buy new objects and even expand your city, making it the greatest city on the game. If you put enough hard work into it. Overall the gameplay was pretty good, alot to do, a very worthy purchase.

Gameplay Rating:9.3/10

Graphics

The graphics i belive were pretty great to be honest, i would say the visuals were pretty good, the explosions, cutscenes, horse riding were all pretty neat. The frame rate was also good. The camera angles at times can be abit sketchy and can glitch at times, but apart from that everything was fine. Overall pretty good graphics, also didn't come out that long ago so the graphics were in a good time period.

Controls

Well the game was a basic platfromer so the controls were rather simple and easy, there was no real change in buttons for each of the characters it was the same buttons for powers and stuff. Also driving or riding a horse its the same button so very simple controls. I liked the way there were sometimes an extra button added for characters with a ability, like Buzz's lazer, gave each character a more unique style to the game. Overall a decent choice in controls.

Controls Rating:8.6/10

Game Reception

Toy Story 3 has received generally positive reviews. IGN scored the PS3 and Xbox 360 version an 8.0, while scoring the Wii version a 7.5. GameSpot gave 7.0 for the PS3[24] and Xbox 360 version. The Official Nintendo Magazine scored the Wii and DS versions 80% saying that it was one of its kind but had horrendous voice acting which contrasts with IGN's review, who said the voice acting was "superb".

Overall

Overall the game was pretty fantastic, a big step-up from the previous games in the series. The controls graphics and gameplay were very good, the setting was amazing, i had nothing to really hate about this game.

Overall Rating:8.8/10
