Synopsis

From the same Spark Unlimited development team that brought gamers the alternate history FPS Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, comes Legendary, a game that once again begins with New York City coming under attack. However, instead of a technically superior Nazi army swarming into Gotham, mythological creatures have been unleashed onto the landscape by small time art thief Charles Deckard, who decided to take a peek inside his latest target: Pandora's box. The resulting pandemonium finds players controlling Deckard through the midst of a three-sided conflict between rival secret societies and beasts such as werewolves, minotaurs, gryphons, and golems. The Council of 98 and the Black Order both seek the power of Pandora's box for different reasons, while the monsters attack everyone and wreak havoc on the destructible environments.

Gameplay

The gameplay in this game is really enjoyable. The ability to mow down mythical creatures recklessly does feel pretty amazing. You're able to pick up ammunition from your fallen comrades, throw Molotov Cocktail at huge flying birds and head-shotting werewolves with a pump action shotgun. The gameplay is really gory and I can guarantee it will send shivers down your spine. It's eerie, dark and the atmosphere is really cold. There are various weapons available in the game for you to use such as an axe, pistol, assault rifles, shotguns and even use environmental objects to blow things up. The enemies in the game are somewhat easy to take down as long as you're hitting them in the write positions. You have the ability to aim down the sight with your guns so you can deliver accurate shots to your opponents and take them down quickly with precision. The campaign is really enjoyable and is pretty thorough. Variety of enemies to defeat (strong and weak), various guns to cause destruction with and mythical creatures all trying to take you down is really fun and it's different. The story mode is tightly scripted among all the immense chaos going down in New York City. A somewhat annoying feature that I noticed is that when you get clawed by a werewolf or a wolverine, you get 3 red claw marks across your screen to symbolize that you've been hit by an enemy. It stays there for about 1-3 seconds and it totally ruins your line of sight as have your screen is covered with claws. Other than that, I had no real issues with the gameplay. Controls are tight and responsive, quick to learn and are easy to navigate. Multiplayer is similar to the campaign however, you're online, have pretty much the same guns and just running around like a headless chicken. Sometimes multiplayer can get really hard so I'd suggest going into the campaign first so you get a feel for some of the levels.

Graphics

Graphics in Legendary are better than average. The characters that you interact with and talk to, sometimes their facial features are blurry. Their clothes have little detail and they look really cartoony. However, the effects in the game look pretty amazing and not to mention the environments. Fighting in cemeteries in the middle of the night while theres a full moon looks amazing, fighting mythical creatures on the streets of New York City is adrenaline rushing as they all look pretty stunning. Nearly all of the guns have some nice detail to it so sometimes that's pretty cool to look at. Now the effects, they're mind-blowing. Seeing all the shells come out of a section clearly, fire looks really cool, explosions look great and the cross-hairs are clearly visible and turn a bright red when an enemy is in sight. Some parts of the graphics portion the developers have done some tremendous work but in other areas of this portion it isn't the case.

Overall this game is really enjoyable, gory and really draws you to the story line. multiplayer aspect to this game isn't amazing but it might be worth checking out. I'd recommend this game to quite a few people if they're bored and want to take out some mythical creatures in a gruesome manner. I believe you may be able to pick it up quite cheap nowadays so check it out.

Game Rating : 7/10 (Gameplay and campaign are really enjoyable, graphics are visually stunning in parts and mediocre and underdeveloped in others, controls are responsive and the game has multiplayer compatibility which is always a bonus)
