Synopsis

TimeShift is a futuristic first-person shooter that has, as the title suggests, players manipulating the flow of time. The game's lead protagonist is Colonel Michael Swift, who wears a sophisticated outfit called the Quantum Suit that grants him his time-altering powers. The storyline has Swift trying to fix the global changes he unwittingly set off while working on behalf of the government, making him a hostile target of his former employers. While advancing through the game's exterior and interior environments, players can slow time in order to sneak past defences, disarm enemies, and avoid traps. Time can also be stopped entirely or reversed, allowing players to solve puzzles and to overcome overwhelming odds. The game includes over 30 single-player levels as well as online support for up to 16 combatants in a choice of multiplayer modes.

Gameplay

TimeShift for me was a pretty good game to play. Bought it for quite cheap at a local game store and the gameplay was pretty good. This game required me to use all my weapons that were disposed for me to defeat enemies, I had to use wit to complete various puzzles and stopping a crazy leader was all in good fun. The game is situated in where you go back in time when the government and some scientists are creating a suit that allows time travel. Obviously things have changed since when you went back in time and you basically have to fight all hell that's breaking loose in the city. The enemies in my opinion have way too much health and it can be sluggish trying to kill them, it's even worse when you have loads of them surrounding you and they're gunning you down every time you pop your head up. You have a radar in the top right corner that allows you to see nearby enemies which is always nifty if you need to sneak up on unsuspecting enemies. Another cool feature in the game is that you can slow time down to perfect certain controls against enemies and/or perform special manoeuvres. When you slow time down you have some time to look around and use environmental objects to your advantage. Fire hydrants, fire extinguishers and loads of other things that will help you in your fight against your enemies. A real problem that I had in the game is that I found myself reloading way too often as it usually takes a whole clip to gun down at least one enemy. This was really annoying as it was so repetitive and you run out of ammunition for your guns way too quickly. Aside that, there aren't any real problems that affects the gameplay portion so it's pretty decent. Campaign is really thorough and has around 30 missions. Some multiplayer maps are even set in these campaign maps so you might want to play the campaign first before you venture off into multiplayer so you can use the environment to your advantage against other people around the world. Multiplayer has the same feel and similar weapons to the campaign so I'd advise you to really play the campaign if you want to do well in Multiplayer. Gameplay controls are really responsive and the controls are basic and easy to learn.

Graphics

Graphics in this game aren't great. However, the effects when you slow down time look great especially in HD. Environments look decent, weather seems somewhat realistic and buildings looked great when I played this game. Guns and bullet trails look pretty amazing and breathtaking in slow motion so that's one thing that I would suggest checking out if you do happen to pick up this game. The suit that you wear seems to have a bit of detail to it, seeing it in cutscenes and from the first person view also and I think they should have added more detail as the suit is something main in this game. Graphics aren't a big part of this game but there are certain effects and places that look pretty swell in High Definition.

Overall this game is quite fun to play. Graphics aren't a big deal in the game but you will probably fall in love with the deep and detailed storyline around the game. Game also has multiplayer compatibility so it's nice to stop playing the campaign and start killing some noobs from around the world!

Game Rating: 7/10 (Campaign is really fun and immensely detailed, graphics aren't amazing and game has multiplayer so that's a great bonus to a decent game)
