Synopsis:

In the aftermath of World War III, Earth has been ravaged and the population decimated by a deteriorating environment. The countries that survived have joined together to form the Greater Unified Nations and turned their eyes skyward. Edge Maverick and his childhood friend Reimi Saionji are chosen as pioneer members of the Space Reconnaissance Force, created to seek out new worlds beyond the stars. And so, Edge and his crew aboard the Calnus begin their voyage in search of a new haven for humanity ... and a second chance.

Game Play: Star Ocean plays a lot different than most RPGs, for one its not a turn based game. Recent RPGs have turned away from the classic turn based style of gameplay and gone with a more sophisticated type of gameplay were in an arena (boundary circle) and must run up and attack your opponent. In star ocean there are 2 different types of attack. Magic and Melee attacks. Your melee is based on your strength and weapon, as magic is based on how much magic you can hold and what spell it is. The combat system for star ocean is very complex and in the beginning of the game will have a tutorial that can take the average player up to an hour to complete. Trust me its well worth it because the game is amazingly fun and when you finally get a grasp on the combat system you will realize how in depth and amazing it is. In the game you are set out on a main quest and can do side quest along the way. You can chose your party like any typical RPG and the way you chose your party defines your game style. To get all the achievements in the game you are going to want to make sure you talk to everyone on your ship every time you land on a new planet so you know everything about them, thus unlocking their ending cut scene that you will see at the end of the game.

Story:

You are a character named Edge Maverick who is from Earth. You are part of a crew who's mission is to find new planets that are life sustainable. As Earth is no longer able to support life. When your crew enters a artificial worm hole, an anomaly causes your ship to crash on a planet that seems to be able to sustain life and is covered in vegetation. But quickly after your crew sets up camp and sets out to find the other two ships that crashed along with you, your crew is attacked by giant bugs who inhabit the planet.

Soon after you get off the planet your next mission brings you to a world that also seems inhabitable, there you find strange illnesses and uncover a plot to destroy the universe. After leaving that planet you and your crew are forced to land on an unknown space colony. The colony is inhabited by the Geth who are being transformed into lizard hybrids by and unknown cause. When your crew discovers the cause they set out on a mission the destroy the geth.

Rating (my personal opinion) 10/10

This game is amazing and probably the best RPG out for the xbox360 which is huge props because I don't own a PS3. The game is long but the story is overwhelmingly good and you are sure to not get bored. If you like Final Fantasy than you will love this game.
